There are many ways but this is the one I use

Open System Preferences > Accounts > Select your account > Login Items and just drag whatever you want opened at login onto the list.

thanks, just a problem in that it opens the folder on login. would be nice if it just created the mapped drive.

What I also do it create symlinks of the share on my desktop. Then in my finder preferences I turn off connected servers under the general tab in order to avoid duplicates when the share is active.

When I need the share all I need to do is click on the icon and voila.

EDIT - this is osx we're talking about - there are plenty of ways to do this, and most things :D

The shares should show up automagically under Network in the finder if you're using workgroup sharing on windoze.

I also think he wanted them pre-mounted on his desktop to save time.

For some reason a lot of things under that Network tab can be pretty flaky... I hope its more reliable under Leopard.
The command-k (⌘k) shortcut has quick access to favourites, and then there is the recent items list under the  menu, but I'm not sure that saves between boots.
