How does anyone know what the afterlife (if there is one) is about? Its not like there can really be witnesses that could tell us...

some claim they have abundance of afterlife know how...

maybe its by design that we can't prove or disprove it ;)

I believe you die... and then you promptly cease to exist. No tunnels of light, no fluffy bunny rabits or winged people, no eternal slumber party.

Like the dead dog you drove past on the N1 yesterday you will decompose and in 200 years you'll be no more important or memorable than it.

Everything you achieve in live and all the knowledge you are gathering means nothing. The only reason we better ourselves and go to work is so we can delay our inevitable demise.

Dying sucks, but since your brain will stop functioning and your personality will be forever lost, you won't care at the time.

Yeah, there MIGHT be a afterlife, but we have no evidence or idea of what its is like, soooo... (shrug)

Theres no way of knowing and it seems like wishful thinking to me, but it would be cool wouldn't it?

The most likely scenario is that we cease to exist when we die, so I think the logical thing to do is make peace with the idea as soon as possible. The point of life seems to be to enjoy it and I honestly believe the only way to derive some lasting joy is by living as blameless an existence as possible. So if it turns out there is an afterlife and your standing in it relies on past merit, you'd be best served by searching for some lasting happiness in this life and not wasting time worrying about things we can't know.

If there's an afterlife what do we do in it forever? Would everybody be bothering the famous souls since they no longer have body guards or do they go to a seperate security complex heaven? Are they still famous? Do we keep our memories and personality and if we don't what's the point?

Billions and billions of people have existed since time began. Just if everybody died now it would be like 7bn new ones. What does this massive army of dead people do in the spare time they have so much of?

The whole idea sounds kinda silly to me.

We used to have a family friend in cape town. But we moved to durban. He came up to durban and visited us the one time. My mom tried to witness to him but he was sooo against it. He wanted nothing of it. Absolute rejection and opposition to the gospel. He had a heart attack and died for a few minutes, came back and became a devoted Christian INSTANTLY. He now goes to church and says the only thing worth while is serving God and reading your bible. He has never told us what exactly he did see. If some body wants to speak to him PM me and ill get his phone number for you.

Let the excuses begin...

Theres also many books on it, off the top of my head:
23 minutes in hel ( i got off amazon)
A divine revalation of Hell (things happened afterwards to confirm his experience) (can get from cum)
90 minutes in heaven (guy was in a horiffic car crash) (can get from cum)

One of my mothers clients mother awoke from surgeory screaming (she is a spiritualist) and said "I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING" (speaking to her daughter who is also a spiritualist), but she couldnt remember.

The devil doesnt want you to know hell is real.

Some people allow their fear of mortality to distort their thinking.

Which hell, the Christian or the Jewish one? If the Christian one, is it eternal damnation or being destroyed? Which devil is this, the Jewish satans that work for God or the Christian Satan?

He has never told us what exactly he did see.

Why would that be?

All this fear mongering. Is this what your God wants?

Fear is the source of anger and hatred Pika (just 'cos Yoda said it doesn't mean its not true). How do you justify trying to spread it every chance you get?

The devil doesnt want you to know hell is real.Near death experiences have been reproduced under controlled conditions using a wide variety of techniques including electrically stimulating certain parts of the brain. They feel intensely real, but it doesn't mean that they are. Anybody who's had a lucid dream can confirm that.

It's widely accepted that the dying brain, shutting down electrically and starved of oxygen is responsible for those types of experiences. They prove nothing.

As for people coming back with prophecies and predictions: to my knowledge nobody has ever independently verified any of these claims. In effect you're just taking the word of some dodgy "eye witness". Nobody has ever come back from a NDE and predicted something like Sept 11 ahead of time. Why is that?

Are we going to be what we were before we were born, or is time going to stop in a sense that we are stuck in a permanent state of our conscience at death?
I think if we care about our extremely important existence we should start fighting for our survival, start supporting immortally groups, support stem cell research, as stem cells have no conscience, thus destroying cells which are not conscience, is not unethical, use darn technology dammit, we will live forever or die trying, oh yes i don't want cyborg parts. DON'T BE IGNORANT YOU WILL DIE IF YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

where do we start?

I think one day human beings will extend their lifespans to > 200 years. Sadly I don't think it'll happen in our lifetime. well we have a bundle of brand new technologies, if we can become a rational society and support promising and completely rational ethical technologies like stem cell research, genetic modification & cloning* . If we move forward in science and rationality i am almost sure it will happen in our lifetime , but science needs a push and not a pull as what religion freaks are now doing to stem cell research. I think we could enable ourselves to first live 200 years, within that life time their will be improvements to further extend our lives to 500 years, then 1000 and so on, I also think their are definitely ways in which we could live as or in our younger selves instead of being 85 forever. This technology may be a bit pricey so we could only have access to it if we were rich, we could then live on forever(say), or until their is proof of life after death or until Christ comes again if he does.    ;)
