Was wondering what language the people in this forum code in.
I use Borland Delphi, I own (legally ;) ): Turbo Pascal, Delphi 1,2,3,4,5, Turbo Delphi 2006 and about to purchase Borland Delphi 2007 Pro.
Don't know if this makes me a n3rd but I've been doing it since I was 11 years old :o

lol - also been at it since 11 years old.
Turbo Pascal was my first PC language, before that BASIC on a speccy as well as Assembler.
Also "conversant" in VB3-6, VB.NET, C#, PHP, SQL (yeah that counts as a language!).
Can bluff my way through C++ code, but dont ask me to write any!
/me joins the n3rd area

lol - reminds me of a joke
Dad comes home with a work colleague and see his son doing homework.
He turns to his friend and says "My son is a genius - he gets A's in Geography, Science, French and Algebra! Son, " he says " say hello to Mr Jones in Algebra!"

Is VB still considered a language? ;)

"Is VB a language" - I know you joke, but why?
VB and C# have the same CLR - they do the same thing. Many countries still use it - SA seems to be unique in this dislike. Is it because it started "way back when" and now the "managers" (who are the geeks of 10 years ago) cling on to the belief that VB is inferior?
I am not trying to start an argument, and I can use both equally well (well duh - they are the same thing really!), but what is the basis for this?
Its almost an "All Blacks vs Springbok" thing! :D

From http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000036.html
"So let me make one thing perfectly clear. Any of you who feel that the syntax:
if() { }
is somehow morally superior to:
If .. Then
End If
are fools."
True... the end result is the same. But as long as I can remember its been like this, me included. For no reason. Shame on me!!

It's really a "carry over" from VB3-6 days as oppossed to C++.
VB.NET and C#.NET are the same (OK - the purists will point out differences - but lets not get into that).

Delphi 4. Not so much coding recently ... but I ought to upgrade.
Perl and PHP. Gotta love the Perl regex syntax.
Some C/C++. VBA, by necessity.
In the past: REXX, APL, COBOL ... a bit of Lisp ... and I forget what others.

Give Turbo Delphi 2006 a go, the explorer version is free to download from Codegear, the only restriction is that u cant use Indy 9/10 (which isnt incuded in delphi4) and u cant use 3rd party components... but heck, i can write an entire program with explorer version alone :)

i386 assembler - in the days before we had internet this is the only documentation I had access to. Can't say I remember much of it. Learned Pascal in school too.
These days bash, perl, sed, awk are what I use most.

Used to do a bit of Clarion not much and then been learning and doing PHP for the past 2 years and I know my way around MySQL

First one I ever learned was MS-Dos batch files.. (If that counts :p )
Then I did Basic (using QBasic)
Followed by Pascal..
Moved onto Windows and did a bit of VB but I hated it.. so I switched to Delphi which was the nearest thing to Pascal..
Then I switched to Linux.. I tried C++ for a while using QtDesigner (a GUI Rapid app developing tool similar to Delphi/VB etc) ... But I never got far in that..
I finally switched to plain old C without any fancy GUI apps.. and that's where I've been ever since.. :)
I also got into some PHP/MySQL stuff.. but not a whole lot.. just basically to build my sister a website..

ASM + Pascal. Used to make simple calculators in ASM. Quite mind boggling.
