Intelligent Design is not science, and barely ranks as pseudoscience.

As such it has no place in this section of the forum.

Ah, but the study of the mind of a creationist surely qualifies as science?
:p

Let's see where this goes. If it begins to lean towards something other than scientific discussion it will be (re)moved.

Mind?

I am playing nice :D

Anyways, I see this thread is nothing more than a "drop and go". Dump some link, and then disappear. Should just be deleted now and be done with it.

Yeah unless anybody is going to post scientific arguments supporting the thread, rather (re)move it now.

/bye bye thread :p

NB - the thread has been moved to the Philosophical debates section.

I see it is in philosophical debates at the top of the page but the link is still available in the science section.

Intelligent design is not science. Anything that says "a magic man done it" is NOT science. God is not in the natural world... science is the understanding of the natural world, and God can not in any way be measured by science.

The ‘information pack’ Truth in Science has sent to teachers consists of two DVDs: ‘Unlocking the Mystery of Life’ and ‘Where does the evidence lead?’ Both DVDs contain essentially the same material, the difference being the second is split into six ten minute parts that are meant to be viewed in science classes. The pack also contains a short booklet meant as lesson plans to accompany the parts of the DVD.

It is worth noting that these DVDs are not recommended by any scientific or educational organisations, and are promoted almost exclusively by fundamentalist Christian organisations. ‘Unlocking the Mystery of Life’ is produced by Illustra Media, linked with Discovery Media, who’s mission is “to utilize every form of available media to present the reality of (God's) existence through compelling scientific evidence and academic research". The Christian group ‘Focus on the Family, whose mission is "(t)o cooperate with the Holy Spirit in disseminating the Gospel of Jesus Christ to as many people as possible, and, specifically, to accomplish that objective by helping to preserve traditional values and the institution of the family", also claims to have been involved in publishing the video.

The material on the DVDs advance the main arguments of the intelligent design movement, contains commentary from several fellows of the intelligent design think-tank the Discovery Institute, with the script co-written by the Discovery Institute’s Stephen Meyer. Many of the scientists shown in the video have made statements that suggest their opposition to evolution is primarily religiously motivated, and none of their arguments in evolution are accepted by the scientific community. The intelligent design movement has proven repeatedly that it is primarily a political and religious movement, and to this date its proponents have not produced any original scientific research supporting their claims. Additionally, the organisation Truth in Science is primarily composed of young earth creationists who reject many of the claims made by intelligent design, but have been shown to use it as a starting point for introducing religion into science class.

The arguments are presented in the style of an educational film, and are generally presented among needlessly lengthy scientific descriptions and impressive visuals, which help to make creationist arguments sound reasonable to anyone without scientific training in the relevant disciplines. Anyone familiar with creationists will recognize their standard tactics including appeals to emotion, arguments from ignorance, misdirection and occasionally blatant falsehoods. In reality in an hour of film very few claims are actually made, and the main ones will be addressed here in the order they appear on ‘Where Does the Evidence Lead?’ Each claim will be followed by a short explanation and selected links to websites with more information. Extended discussion of the topics rasied will appear on this site in the near future. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

I've watched the former DVD you mentioned. They have very narrow-minded religious views of it all. Was 2 years ago so I can't remember all the other comments I had about it. I do know however, that I did not agree with their way of reasoning whatsoever.

Yeah, they tell a fib here, a fib there, to make a whopper of a fib seem real later. I hate all this dishonesty :(
