Zimbabwean police have arrested more than 1 300 shop owners and business executives for defying the government's order so far, reports IOL.
Of those arrested include two South African businessmen, one from Edgars and the other from Nando's, for failing to slash their prices by half as the Robert Mugabe-led government instructed last week.

Even his own is turning against him, and what does he do... fires them. babwawbaw ,you must admire the man
Gono has also written to State Security Minister Didymus Mutasa, who chairs the joint operations command behind the blitz, saying he opposed the campaign.
This is said to have angered Mugabe, and left him considering firing his previously loyal right-hand man, a move that could spell more trouble for his embattled regime.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is preparing a dramatic plan to rescue the shattered Zimbabwean economy by extending the rand monetary area into Zimbabwe, according to sources.
FANTASTIC solution there okes. Rather give money that could be used for the upliftment of South Africans to that f@#cking crazy b@stard across the border

He will last long.
As long as South Africa continues to prop him up, he will last until the old goat dies of old age.
Kind of reminds me of SA propping up Smith's Rhodesian govt after UDI. They lasted a LONG time.
SA needs to impose sanctions on Zim. Cut off fuel and electrical supplies and then build a 10 meter high concrete fence along the SA zim border.
Let's see how long uncle bob lasts then.

In the latest pandamonium, the price of fuel has been slashed by 70% - from Z$180 000 (about R5 000) to Z$55 000 (about R1 500).
 Something looks wrong here.
From another story:
In a move likely to precipitate a fuel crisis, the teams on Saturday ordered service stations in Harare to reduce the price of a litre of diesel and petrol from about 200 000 Zimbabwe dollars to between 55 000 and 60 000 dollars.
The new price is worth around 0.34 US dollars per litre, which is way below the selling price for fuel in the region. In neighbouring Mozambique, petrol sells for nearly 1.50 US dollars a litre.

Maybe Mbeki's 'silent diplomacy' should come into effect. Silently ignoring all requests for aid from Zimbabwe, closing down the borders. If I was a shop owner, I would close the doors and keep the stock for self preservation. How long do you think Uncle Bob's supporters will stand by him if he cant feed them?

The Department of Foreign Affairs is obliged to help South African citizens if they are in trouble outside the country. They have shown this through rescue missions after the Tsunami, Indian Earthquakes etc.
But the businessmen and/or their families or managers etc have to inform the Department of the issues - Once the Department has this they can step in to help - otherwise their hands are tied

I haver heard that there is already alot of 'behind the scenes' work going on to bring the ruling ZANU-PF and MDC parties together around a table to negotiate.
Mugabe knows his time is running out, and this is a last ditch attempt to curry favour with the masses - you know, "hey look at me Im concerned for your wellbeing and have slashed prices and brought down inflation"

The masses are not educated enough to realise that this last ditch effort, completely ruined any hope for a recovery. In RSA our education system is also lacking, there is a lack of skilled workers and as things go downhill from there the masses will be too ignorant to realise whats going on.

Yes, but there is hope, aside from the South African intervention, Zimbabwe like South Africa is not a country with only ignorant people, there are many intellectuals in both countries. Zimbabwean intellectuals have already seen the folly of Bob's ways and need to start speaking out.
I am not going to go into what South Africans need to do to stop a similair situation in this country, I have done that so often on this forum, that I just don't have the energy

A lot of people I know from Zim are too scared to speak out because they still have family/friends in Zim. I've heard specifically of cases where after speaking out here they've had relatives in Zim arrested and threatened etc. I've even heard of people being directly threatened in SA actually.

People like Cathy Buckle have been speaking out for ages, inside the country. But the fact that Mugabe ignores all criticism, and the rest of the world doesn't want to get involved means that the criticism is pretty much useless.
There are realistically three options in Zimbabwe:
(1) Mugabe dies.
(2) Foreign intervention
(3) Uprising / revolution
Since Mugabe has been in power for 27 years now, I see it as highly unlikely that he is going to step down. He has played the negotiations card before. In essence, it is simply a tactic to buy time.

The MDC should sit tight, the way it looks now, the MDC holds all the aces at the moment.
Zanu-PF is in a self destruct cycle and the only reason they want to talk is to maintain power post Mugabe.

Indeed, there are people who speak out from inside the country and they get beaten up or whatever.
Mugabe's government is no different than the National Party in SA in terms of using power to stay in control. The difference here is that Mugabe's guavament is black therefore it will continue to do as it pleases with no fear of repercussions. And when Mugabe is dead and buried, someone else like him will take his place.

FIfa won't withdraw 2010, why should Zimbabwe problems become south Africa problems? Why it won't become Zambia problems? Mbeki cannot support the UK/USA coup attempt against President Mugabe. If he does then he put the whole continent in danger of another occupation and that won't happen. Anyway Shaka, how did Britain and America manage to bring Zim to its knees? Was Mugabe incompetent? Was Mugabe so incompetent to the degree that evil Britain and America has won? Must make the rulers of those countries pretty smart compared to old Mugabe.
USA and UK won't bother entering to Zimbabwe, because its worthless, one American company can buy the whole of Zimbabwe if they were so inclined. Google can buy the whole of Kenya.

Negative views would be posting an article on racial tension, which does nothing but increase racial tension. It makes people respond with negative, emotional comments.
Zimbabwe going down the drain officially is not negative in the same sense.

President Robert Mugabe’s government has dismissed as “wishful-thinking” reports that the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was planning to rescue Zimbabwe’s increasingly worthless currency by linking it to South Africa’s rand. Information Minister and chief government spokesman Sikhanyiso Ndlovu dismissed the reported plan offhand, saying Zimbabwe, as a sovereign state could not surrender control of its currency to a foreign state. "I have read those reports, but I can tell you that is wishful thinking," Ndlovu told ZimOnline. "How can that be when we are a sovereign state?" added Ndlovu, who spoke as SADC secretary general Tomaz Salomao left Zimbabwe on Sunday after holding talks with Harare officials on how to rescue the collapsing economy.

You ask for freedom of speech and then ask to have negative news/posts to be banned? Where's the freedom in that?
Negativity is based on perception, what you might find negative another might feel is reality. In effect what you're asking for is the mods to remove anything you feel is negative.
Your posts in all likelihood get removed because of personal attacks on individuals.
