Hey guys

Ive been thinking about playing some GW online, cs is geting a bit much :P

So if i wana come and play what all do i need? I dont even know how many expansions there are so if someone could just list em all for me so i can make sure i get everything.

Are the servers local and how is cap usage with GW?

There are 3 chapters namely Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall, then there is Eye of the North expansion that just came out. You can get any one of them, opinions differ about which one is best but I prefer Nightfall.

The bandwith usage is about nothing (eg 3 mb for longer than 6 hours I played yesterday)
The servers are in the Uk or Us but doesn't matter, high pings don't really matter (I have played over my cellphone GPRS before with minimal lag)

Except Eye of the North, as this is an expansion you require any of the 3 chapters to play this.

for everyday play pings don't matter, however with pvp play things can get ugly even with 4 meg unshaped :(

Realistically, I see it using around 2-3 Mb/hr

I used to play with a GPRS modem with only R60 airtime a month (bought data bundles). Lag was never an issue, I healed all of the prophecy and factions missions and my share of elite areas as well.

You cant compare it to WoW. I prefer WoW due to the RPG elements, but guildwars looks better, has a better pvp system, and the missions is great. With WoW you need a real commitment to experience the instances, where with GW its more casual.

@James

My healing actually became worse after I switched to unshaped dsl... Its amazing how you learn to compensate for your bad link.

Due the sheer amount of content in the chapters, I'd realistically suggest getting Nightfall now and then playing through into Eye of the North. Playing Prophecies and Factions will eat up easily 3-6 months, with an average amount of gaming (in the region of 12-18hrs per week).

If the game does grab you, then you'll be eager for GW2, which is in development now too. So I'd suggest getting NF first, to decide if you like the game, then getting EotN.

Nice!
There is also a Platinum Edition, which includes Prophecies and Eye of The North.
I believe they decided on Prophecies because the link to Eye of the North is more related to Prophecies than any of the other chapters. The game time lines hook up nicely from the other 2 chapters as well, though.
My last session on HSDPA which lasted 4 hours and 30 minutes came to 23MB of usage. I was doing mostly PvP during this time.
