Morning Everyone!
I have recently returned to SA from UK and have been lucky enough to keep my job which I love. However I need a reliable, fast broadband connection to be able to do this.
Problem is I live in an area where ADSL is not available (in the sticks near Wilderness) - fibre optic cables are all there but there are no plans to hook them up to the exchange! It took about 10 phone calls up to Joburg to find this out!
I am currently trying a wireless connection through Vodacom network but the speed is slow 236.8Kbps and not always reliable.
I need to be able dial into a server in the UK, send and receive email, surf the web and use Skype.
Does anyone know much about satellite connections? This seems to be my only other option.
I also haven't been able to find out any other information about any more local WISP's which might offer a faster connection.
Saw something about DSTV broadband (we have got DSTV) but this just appears to be a website for viewing videos.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I am quickly turning myself into a grumpy zombie by getting up at 4am every morning when connection speeds seem better!)
