Awesome guys. How are you doing it? Legacy Visa's? Or did you apply and they gave you one?

Go over on a 2-year working visa and then come to an "arrangment" with a british chick or guy. :D

SWEET. I never knew how important an EU passport or visa could be until i got one. Literally a life saver.

When my girl got her passport she didn't seem to think much of it. I quickly told her that people would kill for one if they could! And.. my European passport...well not as good as a British I suppose but exactly what one needs as a stress-free ticket to rainy days and big fat pounds!

I'll miss home sure... but I'm not going to wake up when I'm 35 and say 'I wish I did it...'

Dude I know a South African girl who's done this... and she's bloody miserable! Her and the guy live together...and she has to wait 8 more months to gain citizenship...they don't even speak or go out.

So be careful if this is your plan!

Acid just make sure you get the list of requirements from the Embassy in Pretoria and you'll be able to answer that question yourself. There are 3 NB documents you need... your mom's British birth certificate being the most important.

London . . . no thanks. England has so much to offer outside of the smoke but people seem to get all glossy-eyed about it.

When one is tired of London, one is tired of life.Maybe that was true in the 18th century but things change ;)

No you're not. You have to apply for a work visa which just means you need to get hold of some substantial cash to put in your account and show them.

And I'm pretty sure my grandfather was sipping cocktails and nibbling on olives in Cyprus while your grandfather was making biltong.

Not screwed at all! ... its just p1ss easy with a British Passport. You would have to do the Work permit stint, and if you are a professional of sorts - then there is no problems. Its just costly. ( an indefinite Residency Visa costs R7000+ , I had to get them for my wife and 2 kids... even tho I am a regte egte soutie)

only after 2 years can they get British Citizenship

The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme is another option. Need 75 points from Age (20 points for 27 or younger, no points after age 32), Qualifications (e.g. 30 for a B degree, 35 for M), Income (SA needs the equivalent of GBP12500 gross per year for 45 points) and Previous UK exerperience (work or study). Also needs to prove English proficiency. If all goes well, I hope to reach the UK (London or elsewhere) early next year.

I'll be hoping to go next year with the typical 2 year holiday visa and then hope to extend it with a work permit.

Lets hope online poker doesn't die out soon :D Else I'm not getting any work :p :D ;)

A friend of mine and his girlfriend went over to the UK on a working Visa, and shortly after they got there, she fell pregnant... Well, that was probably the best thing they did, because they had the baby there, and got all kinds of help and subsidies from the state. And because they had the baby there, they were able to get their residency sooner... not sure how, but they did
