Playing Counter Strike 1.6 on Steam

Does anyone know if the CS1.6 SGS servers are operational? They have some link on the sgs website:
http://hl1stats.saix.net/hlstats.php?game=cstrike

When I click view on any server's stats it says:
ERROR The details for this server couldn't be retrieved, this maybe because the server is currently unavailable.

Otherwise, is it playable on foreign servers, with a 384kbs connection?

If I am not mistaken I get errors on all their servers if I click on the link in the website. That is a norm for me, I have never seen it change. But go into the game and connect to the IP address shown on the SGS website and it should still work.

This confirms some servers are up! Funny that I had already done this a few times before you suggested it, guess it was a slow day or something...

Only SGS servers are AIM maps and Dashur though...don't think I wanna download 800mb to play it on just those 2. Looks like there's a Tunisia server too.

Does anyone know what latency and stuff is like on foriegn servers?

Skeptic: As far as I know the ONLY place you can get it is on-line through Steam. I have old retail Half-Life that I registered on Steam and I can now download:
Counter Strike
Day of Defeat
Deathmatch Classic
Half Life
Half Life: Blue Shift
Opposing Force
Riccochet
Team Fortress Classic
For no Charge!

Dude just google "Counterstrike download" and u can download it.

1. Get Steam

2. Make an Account

3. Go Steam Shop, buy the pack with CS 1.6 and CS:CZ for $10 (roughly R70)

4. Game will start downloading, pause the CS:CZ dl you don't need it.

5. Its about 500mb and will take about 3-6hours depending on server activity. When its done head to the Saix page.

6. Add all the IPs into the Steam Server browser

7. If people are playing, click join. You might not see anybody because they are probably playing pickup: for pickup you need IRC and need to activate an account, the tutorial is on saix.

PS: There aren't only those servers: Dashur and AIm, the Pickup servers play normal maps. Pickup is like a clan game and is really fun as long as you play with the right people. Look out for me, my name is thedoncorleone*.
