So I learnt on this forum how to buy and install more RAM, now have 2 x 256k in my home computer. I am in the US and I have bought a laptop that came with a trial version of MS Office Student & Home which I can convert to a full version (with 3 licenses for $130) and now I have got thinking....

I'll buy 2GB of RAM for $60 and put it in my machine back in SA, then I can install the MS Office (I'll need to buy Vista) and I am off and running.

Then I see the advert for an Intel Core Duo Processor E6750 Motherboard for $220. Can I buy this and also stick it in my computer at home? I don't know what motherboard it has but it is a few years old. Or is there more to this than meets the eye? Adding RAM is one thing, changing the motherboard another?

I picture myself working thru OR Tambo with a new computer (well the parts for one) in my pocket! I appreciate the advice that will be coming.

Adding RAM one thing, changing the motherboard another. Also there's a good chance that the E6750 processor won't be compatible with you motherboard at home if it's a few years old.

I read the advert wrong. It is a processor and motherboard:

Intel Core Duo Processor E6750 and ECS G33-TM2 Motherboard for $220.

Can I then buy this and add the RAM or does this change then impact on other components?
