So the new Telkom Usage tracker is up and running, has some very interesting changes. To be honest I only checked the site today and since I hardly go to this page it may have been up for a while. Anyway I can't find any threads on the new tracker so just thought I'd make one :).
Link: https://secure.telkomsa.net/titracker/
Edit: Below is a quote from the page:
Please note: Local Bandwidth is in a testing phase and more details will be communicated at a later stage.
Please ignore usage that accruse on the Local Bandwidth tracking tool and will have no impact on your original blended threshold purchased.

I'm reading that as local is free until such time they let us know and that it wont effect our purchase of accounts as yet.
Am I correct?

Yeah, just added it as an edit to my original post (and then yours popped up at the same time).
"original blended threshold" are the interesting words here.

My Local bandwidth stats are showing 0 for all values. Does anyone have any stats in their local bandwidth section?
The "Blended Current Active Sessions" also seems to update quite regularly. When I hit refresh, new updated stats were being displayed (That was in a time frame of less than 20 mins).

Another interesting link on the new "TelkomInternet DSL TopUp" feature.
Blended Shaped = R64.76 incl. VAT per gig
Does not require you to get a new account. You simply TopUp your current account.

guys, i think theres somethin fishy goin on there...
i usually used the old tracker at: http://secure.telkomsa.net.
then, about a week or two ago, they said it wasnt working and that we should use : http://userstats.adsl.saix.net for the time being.
now, when i checked my usage on the latter address, its showing me that ive used about 1gb. but now when i check the one posted here ( which is the former secure.telkomsa.net address), its only showing that i used some 526Mb this month under blended total usage for november.
now which of these is true? since i have the telkom do1 and usually get capped right at 1gb, and now that i'm not capped yet, i'm thinkin these *******s screwed up somewhere. so effectively, i may just get to use another 500Mb or so. lol...
anyway, lets wait and see if theres any change by tomorrow.
has anyone else had similar experiences?
id advise you to check your usage on : http://userstats.adsl.saix.net too...just in case.

Now that's convenient. Its a new day and I thought I'd hop over to the new titracker and see what's happening and it doesn't want to login :)
Anyway was just going to give an accurate comparison of my stats. I too had a big difference between what the titracker said I had used and what my SASA ADSL Stats Analyser (i.e. SAIX) was telling me.
I had used about 500mb less according to titracker

lol i think i used about 8gb on my do2, since they didn't cap me, so i decided to use it "wisely", they just capped me and i can still come up here so i take that local is free now... w00t..
and one strange thing... on the new tracker it says i used 2gb something only... :)
SO I WANT MY DOUBLE CAP!!!!!! :P lol

going to be interesting at the end of the month to see if Telkom charge people for the 'free' local bandwidth.

certainly will. though i suspect they have little ground to stand on in trying to do that, that doesn't preclude them from trying

WTF?
TITracker?
Obviously this site has little to do with bandwidth. It tracks local management performance - hence the readings under local. No doubt they will start fudging these figures soon in order to cut down on the current embarrassment levels

Ok well they wont be charging just yet.... Take a look at this article
Here are some of the nice tasty bits
"Telkom has previously indicated that it will charge a reduced fee for all local bandwidth consumption after the usage limit is reached. Telkom is however currently not charging for this service and the price for this local bandwidth has not been communicated yet."
And the most important
No official launch date yet
"Telkom’s Group Executive for Corporate Communications Lulu Letlape said that Telkom Internet commenced testing its intended solutions from 1 November 2007 in a live environment to ensure that the solution complies with the regulation concerned.
“Specific changes to Telkom Internet's subscribers’ contracts, as well as any new packages, will be communicated once testing is successfully completed,” said Letlape."

Yeah, lets just hope that they do stick to their word here and only start billing us after a set date i.e. once they have let us know the terms.
They might also just be testing what people do when they know that they don't have to pay for local. And If their system can handle the load then they will just keep it free. They did the same thing when they were testing the 4 meg lines that were supposed to be 1 meg lines.
