I am visiting South Africa for a month and my Mother is having ADSL added to her Telkom service. They told her that I can use my own modem or get one from them. Anyone have any advice on where to get a modem?

D-link
Netgear
Billion
Linksys

cant go wrong with those brands

it's just a case of selecting what features you want. built-in switch, Wifi, traffic shaping , ect.

You could look at the online retailers like www.digitalplanet.co.za or www.pcmall.co.za if you want good prices. You could also try here for Billion routers. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=93871&page=2&highlight=discount

Digital Planet is also giving away a R100 voucher with Netgear routers this month. Where are you posting from? If you are in the UK or Europe you should be able to buy really cheap refurbished routers for around 10-20 Euros which would be a much cheaper option.

I would suggest get one from them...Simply because then its up to them to sort out any internet probs your mother may experience if something goes wrong with the modem OR their internet connection...If you buy the modem from someone else, its nothing for them to say you must sort out your own modem...catch my drift? :)
