I see alot of roumors going aroud that people say roaming on the vodacom network with virgin mobile would get you 3G.
1) Virgin Mobile rents a internet server with cellc so there is no why cell c would give virgin mobile a 3g enabled server and covourage if they dont even have 3G
2)Virgin Mobile clearly states that 3G will be releast when they become independent or cell c gets 3G with one ever comes first.
Read this on their web page www.virginmobile.co.za
If you are thinking of changing to virgin mobile Think twice becouse their internet is off everyday due to "traffic"
they have a constant problem with recharging and when porting your number like I did takes about 1month! trust me I had to call consumer watch here in KZN (Durban) and they helped me solve the problem!

Really don't know why I am replying to this...
3G... so what - If people can get away from Telkom dial-up who cares, you don't happen to work for Telkom BTW... are you the person that writes the info in the phone book by any chance
All networks and systems have their problems, Vodacom, MTN included... ADSL also goes on holiday as well, at least when you phone Virgin you get to speck to a human
I have ported a few people and it take about three days

What rumors? The rumors that was going around back in 1920?
3G server?
There is no such thing. A server is a server. 3G was just the last-mile access medium.
3G was possible on VM - It's just not possible anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Cell-C (and therefore Virgin Mobile) also have 3G now??

And who told you that?/Where did you find out about it?/What leads you to believe that?

I work for a local company which offers services over GPRS/3G. A while back I remember Cell-C users had some GPRS problems and the word from Cell-C was that they were upgrading to 3G.

Someone mentioned a while back that Cell C might be upgrading to Edge2 or something like that, which is faster than 3G, it was only a rumour however. ;)
Edit: I just googled Edge 2 for the first time and I don't see anything about it, looks like Edge gets up to 384kbps, which is like 3G ;)

Hi,
I think you are referring to EDGE LTE which supports up to 2Mb/s.

I would highly recommend anyone wanting an sort of connectivity to stay well clear of virgin mobile. Whatsapp barely works on my iphone with it :(

How is the 3g connection and speed in the Randburg/ Roodepoort/ weltevredenpark areas? I'm thinking about getting from virgin who are offering topup 3gig data plan @R149 a mth. Any comments on their current data service would be appreciated.

I want to port my sim n/w with virgin and if it's not good with internet then can you suggest me any good plan for reliance
My girlfriends number was ported in a day and we have constant internet speeds. However, we do work close to the CBD in Cape Town.
