Shell South Africa commenced restarting of the Alberton fuel depot in Gauteng and was making steady progress towards restoring full operations at the site, the company said on Friday.
"We expect the depot to be fully operational during the course of this weekend, which will allow for the reinstatement of fuel delivery services," said spokesman, Elton Fortuin.
The Alberton fuel depot was shut down for safety reasons last Friday after a fuel leak.
Some areas of Gauteng were experiencing fuel shortages due to a delivery backlog.
"Since we have a significant delivery backlog to clear, we only expect fuel availability to improve at our Gauteng retail service stations during the course of next week," said Fortuin.
