The ANC's decision to suspend ANC Youth League president Julius Malema must be respected by the trade union movement, Cosatu said on Tuesday.
"When the [African National Congress] takes a decision, it is our decision," Gauteng chairman Phutas Tseki told shop stewards in Soweto.
"That is why we must be active in branches and in the youth league so that our voice is heard."
Tseki came out against the burning of T-shirts, referring to youths in Malema's home town Seshego who celebrated Malema's demise in this way.
"That is like dancing on someone's coffin," he said.
The Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) is meeting to plan a national strike on March 7.
The action is to protest over the use of labour brokers and possible tollgates in Gauteng.
