  • Man's skeleton found in Pretoria substation

A man's skeleton, dressed in overalls, was found in a manhole at an electrical substation in Pretoria on Friday afternoon, paramedics said.

"The man appeared to have been tampering with the distribution board and indications are that he had been dead for a long time," Netcare 911 spokesman Jeffrey Wicks said in a statement.

An electrician made the find, near the Makro store at the junction of Zambesi Drive and Lavender Roads in Annlin, Pretoria.

You think? Wait, I also think it could have been a shocking experience. Forget death-defying, that part didn't end so well.

The shocking part would be if maintenance is neglected for this long.

Maybe it's a section/area that has no need for people to go into?

For the morbid amongst us - how long does it take a body to go from death > decomposing > skeleton?

LoL, I googled that now now.
Decomposing inside a building would take a few days, seeing as it would be dry.
Becoming a skeleton... it's not as clear... but it would seem to be 6-24 months.

It's probably not that uncommon for employees to go awol and never return?

It would interesting to know if his salary was paid during the time he was busy transforming himself into a skeleton.
Maybe just a cable thief who got what he deserved?

Thats true, but most decent companies will have their HR department try and locate said person

Unless this person didnt have a next of kin to contact

Unless you watch CSI... they have bugs that can pick a body clean in a few hours.

Yes, true. But we don't know under which conditions this occurred... or the condition of the bodyskeleton so it could be either or.

One blew up in my neighbourhood at night. Sounded like a bombing raid, the sky was flashing orange. Woke up and nearly nearly s**t my pants

Dude, if there was a trekkie equivalent for CSI you would be IT!!

On my defence I just noticed it while I was waiting for a server to replicate, so I am glad I even got the CSI bit right.

I watched that episode during the week... It was Marg Helgenberger's last show as she wants to return to the stage.

Everything needs a maintenance check. Even palendaba(sp) has a team that goes on monthly just to check. Even if it's mothballed.
