  • You may soon have to RICA your drivers license

Drivers may soon have to show proof of residence to keep their licences valid, similar to the Rica system currently in place for cellphones and bank accounts, according to a report on Tuesday.

This is one of the proposed amendments to the National Road Traffic Law announced in the Government Gazette last week, Beeld reported.

Motorists will have 12 months from the date of the amended law to show their full name, address, ID number and birth date to a licencing authority, and any change of address will also have to be reported within 21 days.

Another noteworthy addition to the law is the suggestion that vehicles older than 10 years will have to undergo a roadworthy test every second year, but this would not apply to vintage cars.

Vehicles that have been written off by insurance companies will not be permitted to be registered again, and the use of chassis parts from such cars to build other cars will also be illegal.

A further suggestion is that new drivers receive temporary licences that will be valid for a year. During this time, the licence will be suspended if the trainee driver commits more than six traffic offences.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

I can just see thousands of taxis, 30-year old bakkies held together with tape, and Putco rust-buckets lining up to pay and do roadworthy tests.

      NOT!

As usual, just us law-abiding dumbasses will be ****ed over so some cadres/comrades can get stinking rich.

Why does the traffic department think that they are special. They are not special. They are losers. ****en ****s are going for more attention. They must stick to making their current amount of work better, not looking to expand.
