  • New smoking rules not well received

Plans by the government to further restrict smoking in public places has some business owners crying foul and threatening legal action.

"This regulation must be rejected because it is not possible to implement... ," said Township Liquor Traders Association secretary Patric Poggenpoel.

He said his organisation had not been consulted on the rule making and asked the department of health to reconsider it.

He said if the new rule went ahead some business owners and organisations would likely challenge it in court.

The new rules would prohibit people from smoking in any public place, including restaurants bars and shebeens.

It also prevents them from smoking within 10 metres of a window to a public place.

Bulls**t. What kind of cig is this that takes 15 minute to smoke? I've timed it at 5 minutes from the time I light up. Should we also start timing how many toilet breaks fat people have? Or how often health fanatics urinate all the nutrients out of their bodies after drinking too much water?

Well it's clear in this thread that most (not all, Celine for example) smokers are blissfully unaware of how uncomfortable and unhealthy 2nd hand smoke inhalation is to non-smokers.

That is the reason you get no respect from non-smokers. It's like some smokers are trying to spite us because they know we don't like it, no matter how unhealthy it actually is.

I do, unlike you probably I drive as little as possible, and switch off every appliance I can. Because, unlike you, I care about others' health.

Sure you do. You're just saying all that because you got called out. And unless you walk or ride a bicycle to wherever it is that you self-righteous types gather, it doesn't make any difference whether you drive a car, or take a plane, train or bus.

Smoker rage ........... only alkies can rage more.

I'm not for draconian laws and as long as smokers are considerate, which a few are, there really is no need for the draconain law. Problem is, a lot of smokers are very very tantrum-like about their habit and their 'right' to dish out 2nd hand smoke to all and sundry.

You're an addict fighting for the right to feed your addiction in public.

      How is that ok?

What's it to you? It's none of my business why people take their annoying screaming kids out in public, but they're allowed to and I have to deal with it.

I'm a considerate smoker, but nothing gives me more joy than to blow some smoke in the faces of knobs like you. Why? Because you're a knob. And you believe in unicorns.
