  • Linkin Park will perform in South Africa

The United States rock band Linkin Park will perform in South Africa in November, Big Concerts announced on Monday.

The band, from Agoura Hills, in California, would perform two stadium concerts -- one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg.

Tickets would go on sale for Johannesburg on July 26, and for Cape Town on July 27.

Linkin Park, which was formed in 1996, released its fifth studio album titled "Living Things" in June.

The band shot to fame in 2000 with its debut album "Hybrid Theory".

      Oh dear ...

Even my brother who is a what-do-they-call-themselves-again fan ...

... wouldn't spend any of his enormous (really) private sector money to watch these lot.

I agree. We mostly only get the "has-beens" here yet the majority of desperate JHB and CT folk will still flock to buy tickets to see this sorry excuse for a band.

      yawn.

Humperdinck, Diamond, Deep Purple, Moodey Blues ....do these concert promoters really think they are doing us a favour ?

The U2 and Coldplay concerts are all that come to mind for ' still there ' artists.

Well ... if the most of the current performers choose to perform in South Africa we'd be paying a disproportionate amount more than the other countries for the simple reason ... anything traveling over the equator and across an ocean adds a significant amount to anything.

Auzzieland is the exception ... purely because they can offer much more (or enough) in return.

Well, we had Rammstein, which was a real treat.

As for Linkin Pork, I couldn't think of anything more odious.

Rammstein do put on an amazing show, even if you don't like their music, this can't be disagreed with.

Who would you like to see most?

Personally, I'd love to see Opeth, Tool, Radiohead and Devin Townsend.

I would consider Radiohead, because they are who I know ... but they are old. Last time I actively listened to them was at varsity back in the late 90s.

So, if you could pick a band, any band, which would it be?

      Live?

I don't like live shows. A crowd of sweaty, rowdy noisy people, struggling to find parking, struggling to drive all the way back home afterwards, negates the pleasure of seeing even ... anyone.

Try driving from PE to Cape Town to see Rammstein, with a friend who gets so drunk he spends half his time trying to climb out the car while I'm trying to drive, and yelling at gangsters on the side of the road and/or vanishing into the dodgiest areas we could find to go empty his bladder.

Then have your car broken into, and have to drive back to PE with a broken passenger window and the car full of shards of glass after having had not a second of sleep.
