SEACOM dumbing it down for us

SEACOM’s recent downtime created a furore, once again, online.

People were slightly less vitriolic but very irate and understandably seeking an answer.

SEACOM’s answer to the problem? Twitter.

SEACOM decided by some misguided piece of advice that the premier platform, offering a whole 160 characters, was Twitter. This company with serious shareholders and countries relying on their uptime deemed Twitter to be the place to announce that their cable had conked in.

Now I’m not a Twitter detractor, far from it, I’m actually a bit of a closet fan. But there’s a time and place for everything and announcing that your bandwidth supply is once again experiencing downtime deserves a bit more than a 160 character shout out.

My advice, it’s time for SEACOM to get real and enter the world of the business and enterprise market where downtime is treated with a bit more gravity than a tweet can convey.
