went and bought a voucher, should of bought a smaller voucher, so be it!!
wen I uploaded the money, great, go free data and and and , though wow this is great!!

then it all went bad!!
data connection at home, edge only, after having been told that I should have full coverage
at work a very week 3G
so though will just use us the money making phone calls
that is no good either!! breaks up and general bad signal in general, almost every where we go!!

though might be the cell phone, as I was using a older hand set, so inserted a sim card from a different/usual network, and no more reception issues!!

thought that cell C had sorted out their coverage and reception issues
obviously not!!

it does not help cellC has this big advertising campaign about the call rates, if the thing dosent work in the 1st place!!

Dear Cell C representative,

It seems that the carrier settings applicable for the Apple iPad gives higher preference to the EDGE network, rather than the 3G network. In certain areas, where there is 3G, the iPad registers an EDGE signal, and internet connectivity is incredibly slow, up to the point where no websites open due to a timeout.

If I change the network selection from Automatic to manual, and manually select Cell C, the 3G connectivity is restored. It remains on the 3G network, up to a point where I put the iPad to sleep. If I want to use the iPad, after a period of time, and awake the device, it defaults back to EDGE. I then have to go through the manual network selection process to reinstate the 3G state.

Can this be fixed through a carrier settings update? It's highly frustrating. Not enjoying the hassle to get the "whoooooosh".

Any other users experiencing this annoyance?

Many Thanks

I thought I would share my Cell C experience with everyone to possibly prevent others falling into this trap of none service.

In March I decided to make a move to Cell C for their Blackberry Z10 deal and leave Vodacom who I had been with for the past 7 years.

The signup process was quick, easy and effective but everything just went downhill from there.

A week after signing up I received my phone and immediately started noticing that my phone's speakers would just stop working for no apparent reason, I could not find a pattern and thus resolve it myself and so phoned Cell C direct to come and fetch the phone and replace it as it was within the 7 day period.

Phoning day in and day out I was unable to get through to Cell C direct as I would have to hold on for 30min+ and calls would randomly drop as someone answered.

Finally I got through to Cell C and I explained to them what happened, they understood that I had been calling and even though I was out of the 7 day period they would book it in as an Out of Box Failure.

Needless to say I was delighted by this, the service representative, one Sipho Sithole told me that the courier company would come fetch the handset and that I would have a new phone within 21 days.

The very next morning the courier company pitched up and I handed them the phone.

A week went by and being the impatient guy I am, I decided to contact repairs to see what the progress was. I was told that the OBF was declined as the accessories weren't included.

Quite frustrated by the fact that they could not just call me and tell me the accessories weren't included and just decline it by default, I was told that a normal repair process would now be followed, meaning another 21 days.

I made peace with the fact that the phone was just going to be repaired and I would soon have my new phone back.

2 weeks after finding out that a normal repair would be done I decided to phone Cell C again, this time I was told that that phone had only been booked in the day before.

Does it take 2 weeks to be booked out of OBF and into normal repairs?

So now I still don't have an answer regarding where my phone is and what is being done to it.

Every time I make a complaint on Hellopeter, the buck just gets passed and Call Centre staff are inept to deal with customers queries.

At this point it doesn't help getting angry over Cell C's lack of service anymore and I've just accepted that it would be cheaper for me to just cut my losses, cancel my contract and move back to Vodacom.

I would like the Cell C rep's opinion on this, is this how every customer is treated?

I'm quite disappointed by CellC's deceptive marketing campaign where out-of-bundle data rates are touted to be the same as in-bundle-rates at 15c/MB. I just received my statement for April for my 99c Straight Up contract with a data usage of 1600MB. I don't contest the amount of data used. But I am unhappy with the tariff at which it was charged.

I was assured when taking out the contract that the out-of-bundle rate will be 15c/MB when the data bundle that is part of the contract is depleted. Now, I realize that I am in fact being charged a tariff of 85c/MB ex VAT (basically R1/MB)

I phoned the call center and was told that it is indeed an incorrect tariff and the issue was escalated. I received a reference number for the call and was told that an agent will contact me.

After browsing around, I found out that I was not the only person caught by the deceptive wording. It turn out that the data bundle bundled with your contract is not in fact a "bundle". The bundle in "out-of-bundle" specifically refers the the bolt-on SmartData data bundles that are purchased at R15/mb, NOT the included SmartData data bundle that is part of your contract benefits.

The unfortunate part is, that this little caveat is NOT mentioned anywhere in the terms and conditions of my contract. It is also NOT mentioned in the press release where CellC announced the 15c/MB data tariffs:

http://www.cellc.co.za/explore/newsr...data-portfolio

Quote:

Cell C today announced that as part of its pricing revamp, the company has reduced its standard data rate to R0.15c per MB for in and out-of-bundle usage across its entire mobile data product portfolio.

The new flat rate applies to all prepaid and contract data bundles and packages from 1 August 2012.

So, to all: BEWARE there is always a catch, you must BUY another data bundle to get the lower tariff. I now set up a R7.50 / 50MB per month data bundle so that I can qualify for the 15c out-of-bundle tariff. I welcome CellC's comments on the matter
