I have been an 8ta mobile customer for over 2 years. To start with, I was very impressed with their service; but now, it seems that 8ta is total trash.

At the start, I was consistently getting over 10mbps. As time progressed, at times I was getting 10+ mbps, yet at other times I was sometimes getting timeouts and low speeds. I raised this with support, and they could give me no answers. They did send a technician out during office hours (I had to get time off work) and as predicted, at that time there were no problems. The problem only happened occasionally.

Ok so now I need to tell you about the antenna. Mine is a fixed-installation connected-to-desktop-pc-scenario. ADSL-replacement (because ADSL is a complete joke, that's another story involving a massive Telkom refund. But that's another story). So the placement is not relevant to what I'm saying -- there has been no change in reception, and I've moved my modem exactly 0.0M from two years ago, to date. Reception is not the issue.

So from the promised 21.6mbps, I initially got 10mbps consistently and I was pleased. It was fast and not expensive (8ta 10+10 package). Sometimes I got terrible service, raised this with support, who had no idea. No idea at all, on how to proceed with this. Like I said, they did send a tech but this was useless as he arrived during one of those in-business-hours times when I had no problems. He tested my setup and was impressed with the speeds he was getting.

So anyway, this completely rules out any issues with my 3G equipment or signal coverage. I can get well over 10mbps to the network.

So, the problem lies with the network.

For the past several months I've had insanely bad connectivity, and I'm considering taking these guys to court. The majority of my connection requests now get rejected; When I do get a connection, speeds are terrible, around 10kbps. Bittorrent hardly works at all -- and in fact, despite my best efforts, there's no chance I could possibly get the 20 gigs that 8ta promises me. I've completely given up on customer support, because they know nothing at all.

The vast majority of my web requests either time out or give me some kind of error. The simplest of pages take minutes to appear, or (more often) give errors. I do not have any trojans that are taking my bandwidth -- I can prove this, having run many, many network traces to try to diagnose this. Negative result. The only possible answer is that my ISP is hopelessly inadequate. I am a very experienced software engineer, and I know what I'm doing. It's simply the ISP's fault (8ta).

My question is: does the CPA cover this scenario? Can I take them to court for inability to deliver on their contractual obligations? I am very angry & I will do this.

My personal belief is that they are completely over-subscribed, and unable to service the requests of their existing customers.

Do I have legal recourse? Should I just dump 8ta in favour of a better service, in spite of it costing me more? Should I embark on an 8ta smear campaign? (they deserve it!!) or .. ?

I just want reliable, fast internet at a decent price. Is that too much to ask for?

c

Not very competitive.

Just a warning to other applicants they keep you on the line quite a long time so rather just tell them no thanks.
The only reason I was holding on was if they would offer me a trial but the guy said they don't do trials anymore.

Hello,

I have about 6 months left on my 8ta 10GB + 10GB Mobile Broadband contract. It's torture. I do used the internet a lot (i.e. we have 4 people using it excluding myself), so we tend to be without any internet by about the 10th each month. After that we usually just buy vodacom data on our phones (so it's about R300 * 4) a month in addition to the 8ta fees.

What I want to know is can I cancel my 8ta contract? If so how and how much will it costs. I've taken a peek at the Afrihost website and the 10Mbps seems to be the best option for out household. How much will it cost to have the phone line/ADSL line installed? I've tried looking on Telkom's website, but it's very confusing. Also, how long will it take to install everything (Phone Line, ADSL Line, etc.)?

I thank any and all who've read this in advance for your time.

Regards,

I have tried and tried to get my issue resolved and cannot so I posting here my story

on the 26 March 2013 I went to telkom to go and apply for the Telkom data max 15 gig package for R249 a month on and month to month contract I went to telkom Westville Pavillion branch.

I signed up for the Telkom Data Max 15 gig package as seen on the following link. http://business.telkom.co.za/product...029242&cid=146 to my shock and horrar when I got my bill I was not on the Telkom Datamax product I was on Internet promo 5. I first phoned Telkom/8ta help line only to be given the run around and be told go back to the Telkom Shop. So I did on about the 3rd of April only to be told they acknowledge the mistake they sort it out for me. Well nothing happened so I put a message on Helopeter. http://hellopeter.com/telkom/complai...ntract-1058931

A lady from Telkom phoned me very apologetic and said we canceled you internet promo 5. she said all I need to do is go back to the Telkom shop and they issue a new contract. So I though cool I do so. Guess what when I arrived there they said the deal is expired they get re activated and give it me still. I left and a week later I went back to the telkom Guess what still no progress. But they said someone will call you Still nothing happened.

I went a week later again still nothing.

I went back 4 time still nothing

yesterday being the 6/5/2013 I got another bill from 8ta saying I owe them money. Will guess what I not paying till this problem is sorted out and how can I get a bill for something I have not had no contract no data no time. I quite prepared to pay for the time I did use before my contract was expired but I must get billed the right amount.

So Please can someone from Telkom sort my problem out and give me t.he contract I signed up for.

Telkom Pavalion you are useless but I will still go back to ask you nicely again for my contract.

by the way tyhe tel no in question in case someone from Telkom care is Ref :0815250167 and my name is James Baillie

Recently a new tower opened in our area and both signal strength and data throughput improved significantly.

Last week my ZTE MF668 modem failed so I went along to the local 8ta store and bought a new Huawei E3131 modem. Everything was fine until last night. Last night the modem connected to a 2G signal and for all practical purposes that is useless. At least with the ZTE modem I could force a 3G connection even if this was to a tower with a weaker signal.

Fortunately the 3G signal is back again this morning but if I had known that the E3131 modem cannot be forced to 3G only I would not have touched it with the proverbial bargepole!

Caveat emptor!

Two weeks ago the sim started to suddenly disconnect and ask me for the pin code. When I entered the pin code the sim worked again, but after some time, an hour or so, it asked for pin again. I went to one of 8ta service centers and told that to the employee.
He said he will replace it for me. He did, he gave me a new sim, didn't ask for any money in exchange.
He kept the old sim, which was still working.

Yesterday, all of a sudden I got "data depleted" message and I could no longer access the internet.
I called 8ta and they started explaining to me that I used thousands of megabytes during the past 2 weeks, which I am 100% I didn't use.
I asked them about the websites I visited, and they said they can't tell me.

I am 99% sure it was that employee.

1- Can two sim cards be used for the same account concurrently, or does the new one automatically disable the old one once activated?
2- How can I prove what I claim ?

That amount of data is very expensive. I want to restore it. Please help me.

I honestly give up. My contract is up for expiration and I will not be renewing or getting another one. How can you run a business of this nature, like this? How can I be expected to sit without a connection for 4 hours? Thank goodness for MTN.

I just quickly need to know, the network speeds for the past week has dropped like a rock on international from 18h00 onwards, is this like a regular thing with 8ta or are there some network issues, because if this is a regular event I'm canceling my contract on Monday which I just entered into this month, can't believe that where at 2013 and a company like 8ta AKA Telkom can't actually be proud of their speeds they provide ppl with, they should be ashamed.

Feedback on this from other users would be much appreciated.
