    Default Less than 60Amp

Busy cooking all of a sudden the geyser switches on and you have to
stop cooking. Normally the 60 Amp is for Max. So I don't think people
are using it all the time. But for sure it gives me some reserves which
Eskom never thought of. Otherwise we would not have to talk about it now.

NO they will the ones eating in restaurants or getting takeaway/ready cooked meals every night and can afford not to have food in their fridges, that spoils.

Those with generators will have bought them out of the need to try save whatever food they have .

I haven't read the entire thread but you must bear in mind that the start up load that some devices can be up to 7 times the 'normal' usage. Things with induction motors tend to be in this camp. Other devices - try doubling the rating.

Oh - your microwave. You think you have a small 800W MW. Look at the plate on the back of it and you'll find it probably takes twice that to run it.

Just spent R200 on energy saving globes for the house. As the geyser in on 24 hours a day and doesnt need to be am turning it off after breakfast and on again in the evening until I get a timer wired to it - my bit for power saving
Give me cheaper prices, not valued added packages.

big mistake dude, to turn your geyser on and off, it uses more power to reheat the water every time and you will end up blowing the element and using more electricity, what you need to do is turn the temp on the geyser down, so if you currently heating your water to 65 drop it to 55

We've invested in a data logger and have been running tests on the electricity load profiles of various devices

We'll constantly be adding more as well as trying to verfiy savings claims as I get the time and opportunity. Any suggestions for tests would be welcome.

Seems the forum editor decided to change my link as I copied it in. Here's what it should be:

Wait a bit, one of us has his or her numbers mixed up. Your geyser element is rated at 2000w (i.e 2 Kw) and is on for 5 hours per day for 30 days. That translates to 10 Kwh per day and 300 Kwh per 30 day month. At the current average rate of R 0.44 / KWh, I come to a figure of R132-00 per month due to the geyser alone. This is more or less in line with what the general public pays. How did you get your monthly figure ?

Geyser has a thermostat, and doesn't run flat-out the whole time...

We ran a test on this to get more speciic data see here:

    http://www.powersaving.co.za/index.php?q=con,53,%20misc

We're currently running a 4 day test on a 4 person family using a geyser - should have the results by the end of the week.

We plan to run comparison test for showering vs bathing soon and then either geyser blankets or simulated time switches.
