    Nothing but a poor attempt at damage control.

    I love it when politicians say things like:""There are various measures that are being put in place to achieve this and other crime busting goals,"

    There are always 'measures' being put into place. He really means one of two other things
    a) We have put measures into place but they were hopefully ineffective and we have thus failed to do anything meaningful
    or
    b) We didnt realise we actually had to do work and put measures in place to achieve anything!

    Methinks the people looking to Zuma for positive change w.r.t. government policy are in for serious disappointment. We have Mathews Phosa telling mayors and premiers their fortunes if they don't follow their instructions from the NEC and a clearly deluded future president who owes a lot of political favours. I don't know if a 3rd option like Kgalema Motlante is going to stave off the influence of Cosatu who have been riding the ANC's skirttails for years without the guts to stand on their own election ticket.

    'It's the growing economy' - the silly twat doesn't have the brains to realise that the same a-holes would still be guilty of not planning ahead if these feeble excuse was considered.

    'Growing economy' - tell that to all the poor miners and workers in other sectors that stand to loose their jobs.

    Even if there'd been no growth we'd still be in the dwang today because there's been a drop in the generating capacity due to poor management of fuel supplies and shoddy or zero maintenance.

    Damn - if only we could, I don't know, have somehow foreseen that growth would lead to more power consumption.

    If only we had had a crystal ball!

    Ok, fair enough...Its the booming economy, but why didnt they foresee to the country's power needs? Far as I know, they should have had "Statistics" about this and do the necessarily amendments accordingly...

    They were told 10 years ago that 2007 would be the end of our reserves.
    And that report was correct.

    It has nothing to do with the "growing economy" but everything to do with p1ss poor planning.

    <sarcasm >Really? 3.5 mil extra people will put load on the grid?
    </sarcasm >

    No need, obviously, to increase capacity if we plan to put more people on the grid.
