Default ReReport line downs and other Telkom screwups

Use this to report when and where your ADSL went down, and the other screwups associated with the sad lack of knowledge on the part of Telkom support.

I don't know if this is only me but every now and then international sites are not accessable at all. It's like the international link goes down frequently and some times vice versa with local sites.

From my side the name servers below:
    196.25.1.1
    and
    196.25.1.9
are screwed every once in a while. It's like they're boozed up or something. Some times they work and some times not. If I remember correctly the 2 above are the biggest in the country? To test this I do nslookup's and the name servers finds it suitable to report that a domain like google.com doesn't exist????

It's like the Saix or Telkom network is screwed up or something.

Maybe it's my own home brew network.. anybody getting this? (I run Linux and masquarade 2 windows machines through it on the ADSL connection)

Erm...check my account...erm... PLS pull power leave OUT of pots for atleast 60sec...try it...nothing.
Sir pls then redo you your setup...reset pots and do evrything from scrats. So I try it...and it works...erm...very nice good quality equipment hey telkom?!? Or everything would be fine...but I resolve no DNS names...ping DNS servres...no response...put IS DNS in...works!
Since I have gotten my ADSL...my lines been down 5 times...where 1 time was for 4 days!!! 4 #@%$#%@ days...and NO SINGLE PERSON at telkom could tell me why? Get ADSL pots router... hangs randomly...phone and complain. No they'll swap it with the new marconi pots at the marconis price (since I complained with in the 14days after the installation). Now I got a new pots and it looks exactly like the old 1....so I phone telkom...no person can tel me how to check the pots (sticker or something on it) or on their OWN system what type of equipment I have in! I mean WTF! So I get my bill finally...guess what..they billing for the alcatel pots not the marconi...its been 3days now after lodging a complaint...still waiting for some1 to phone me[xx(]

I had the same ****e with the Marconi ADSL POTS (of ****e)...

I eventually got them to swap it out, and then returned it within the 14 days of receiveing the new one for a FULL refund (naughty hey!)

So I went and got a Netgear RP814 and I must say I do still have the problems but not as much as with the Marconi router.

If I go into my interface (for the router) in my browser I still hold my current WAN IP but the link goes down, then up for about 10-14 secs then down this can happen for between 5 mins and 2 hours...

I phone Telkom, they check the line, all is fine sir, I reply well what is the problem. What router do you have sir? A Netgear. Well then it is your hardware.

Suck on my left nut! It's not my hardware you f***ing w***ers. It's your inability to identify what the problem is....

Boy, have I been down that road before.
I call - no international connections.
She tells me: What DNS are you using?
    I tell her.
"Yeah, no, well, but they've been changed. Please set them to ..."
    Really? [?]
    A. If you have changed them, WTF don't you tell people?[:o)]
    B. I don't set my DNS manually. I get them from you!!!! So there's nothing to set anyway.[:0]
    C. I don't have a freakin' name resolution problem to begin with.[xx(]

Cape Town all day Wednesday and Thursday (29 & 30 July 2003) Technicians are saying it to be an intermittent issue, syncs then doesn't, loss of PPPoE, then back.

How does thid translate to service?

Why does anyone use the overpriced Telkom modems and routers?

Shop around, and you will find cheaper and BETTER.

Can't logon on. My user name and password are supposedly invalid.
    Call help desk.
    Helpdesk: "What's you user name?"
    I tell her.
    Helpdesk: "What's your password"?
[:0]WHAT??[:(!] I refuse - don't these people know that NO FREAKIN' HELPDESK SHOULD EVER ASK A USER WHAT THEIR PIN OR PASSWORD IS!

Anyway, they were supposed to call back. Never did though....

But it works again - guess I must have suddenly remembered what my password really is....

Good on Marius van der Walt of Telkom, Cape Town.

Helpful Technician, came out to premises at 11pm, stayed till past one (in the morning), helpful and honest[;)]!!!!!

Was a bit perturbed by his "disapproval" (he says hushed clutching a suddenly working ADSL line/modem combo)of my Planet ADE 3000 Ethernet ADSL modem. He couldn't find an ICASA sticker on it, hence was apprehensive of its qaulity after telling me it was too sensitive. granted both his ADSL modems (USB and Ethernet router) worked deliciously, plugged my Planet back in, some issues then "like a miracle" it stayed connected (he says hushed clutching a suddenly working ADSL line/modem combo.

Did pick up "some errors" on my line, which he will report.

Funny, I don't recall any "ICASA stckers" on the CISCO routers I have dealt with / installed.[}:)]

But thank you none the less Marius, you stayed, you tried and I am able to post this because of you.

    Hi Paf

My speed has been pathetic the whole weekend, especially since pat night. I think we are in for some tough times!

It is great to hear about your positive experience Herb. If we have a prize for worst service, it might be a good idea to have one for the best service as well. I think Marius is a good nomination. Good work from him!

    Regards,
