Yip downloaded VirtualBox deb last night, am busy toying with it.
The thing I have against thunderbird is that i can only specify one smtp server, now my problem is, i have two, 3 of my mail accounts go through the same saix smtp server but the other one does not, so yes, that is still a struggle.
You can specify more than one - Just check the options, where it says SMTP servers, you can set more than one, and just pick each based on an account, otherwise there is the default smtp server that all your accounts will use if they don't have a different one selected.

I tried setting up different ones, but with each new account, it defaults to the one smtp, but its not a tran smash, until I figure it out, i use thunderbird for all my one group of mails, and kmail for the other, on the positive side, it keeps it all nice and sorted.
On the issue on email, is there a way that I can import my mails from my outlook pst file to thunderbird? I have a lot of emails in outlook that contains config settings and lisence keys and want to bring them all over to thunderbird. Have tried the import function, but that only imports communicator emails
In your Account Settings, add both SMTP servers under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" then, under each account, you can select which SMTP server it should use.
You can't really compare them directly. Thunderbird is a mail app, Outlook is a groupware app. As far as reading and organising mail goes, especially if you subscribe to mailing lists, Outlook sucks balls compared to just about everything else. Can't do simple threading. Disclaimer: I haven't bothered with 2007, since I don't use Windows anywhere, but 2008 (Mac) doesn't do it. It can do "conversations" but it's just not the same.

yeah i currently have multiple accounts setup to use smtp servers in tbird.
Do NOT construe anything I type as advice
This Froot is no longer available.....
That's tad tricky, but here is the way:
1) Import your Outlook .pst folder into OutlookExpress on Windows.
2) On Windows install Thunderbird.
3) Thunderbird for Windows has got an import Mail from OutlookExpress wizard. Do it.
4) Get the imported Thunderbird folders from Windows to your Linux counterpart.
You're done!
Tell me if it worked.
