Ah, well haven't looked at Seagate drives in a while and I have no idea what their policy's are but I know some of the local dealers are very dodge, selling products in the retail channel that contain stickers that clearly state: "This product may not be sold in retail channel, OEM ONLY!" or something similar so it wouldn't surprise me.

You can look on the Seagate webpage but even if you find out what are you going to do?

In SA anything goes with the dealers, reseller model is stupid anyway.

As long as they (FrontoSA) can and will honour the 5 year warranty.

I doubt they wouldn't but the problem comes in when/if they close down and liquidate then you're screwed.

Yup, But I wonder if most of the other online stores got their stock from FrontoSA, similar price (cost+vat+5%) and same specs, 5 yr warranty.

I bought office xp a couple of years back from PCGameWorld in OEM packaging (after the manager said it's the same but without the packaging). I found out it was illegal, got pissed at the guy and reported the store to the BSA. A year later the store got closed down. Shows you that some people actually do their job and it also shows you what happens if you do illegal stuff.... hee hee.

No wonder last time when I visited Sandton square I could not find that store anymore (a few empty chassis left inside).

Seems worthwhile paying R100 or so more to insure you get it from somewhere reputable that is still going to be around in a couple of years...

Wasn't in Sandton, sorry. But I'm assuming that maybe they might have been busted on a larger than-simply-one-store scale.

Not too shabby. Rectron is selling that for R279 excluding VAT.

I'm looking for a 120Gb external hard drive for backing up my laptop. Anything good other there?

[PS: The higher the write speed the better].

I take it you want one that runs off USB power then?
