Thread: a Quick Virtualbox question

  1. #1

    Default a Quick Virtualbox question

Just a quick question, and keep in mind, I dont have my linux box in front of me, so am sucking this all out of air.

But I want to set up a virtualbox vm, carrying xp.now my question is this (as my usage with vm's are limited at best).

Do i need to make any changes to settings or so, if I want the guest OS, to use the internet through my host os's adsl connection (I cannot to adsl through kubuntu, and then xp can also browse the web)?

This might seem like a dumb question but so what, I'm an idiot

It should just work. However if you are having issues you may need to set up a bridged network interface. http://samiux.wordpress.com/2007/07/...on-virtualbox/

Cool, was also checking out the bridged setting in the virtualbox pdf, but was not sure if I would need it

In theory it should all work automatically. Let us know if it does

Installed XP on virtualbox running on openSuSE 10.3 - everything worked out of the box.

You will want to install the guest drivers to allow for seamless mouse pointer integration, and dynamic window resizing as well.

Yeah, unless you're trying something fancy just leave it as it is. Just make sure that under Settings you've checked the box that says something like Enable Network Interface, and Cable Connected. Default settings are something like Network Adapter: PC Fast III and Attached to: NAT.

Well my friendly forum folk, have to say, phase one of this little plan is complete and successful (virtualbox with xp is running fine with all connections).

Phase 2 will start tonight with me trying to sync my p1i.

(ps. interestign question, if I run windows xp on one partition (gaming) as well as a guest (imvu and so on) in linux, can I still use the same serial and activation for xp, or does that count as two different OS, meaning, by activating the one, I will deactivate the other one?)
