Thread: Teleologists and Non-Teleologists

  1. #1

    Default Teleologists and Non-Teleologists

The Intelligent design vs evolution debate seems like a recent manifestation between religion and science. It is not. It goes as far back 500BC where two opposing groups of scholars have dueled it out. In the one corner you have the teleologists and in the other corner you have the non-teleologists. Famous teleologists from Greece include Aristotle, Plato, Diogenes, Socrates and non-teleologists include Democritus, Leucippus, Empedocles and Epicurus. More modern examples of teleologists include Kant, Darwin, Paley and Aquinas while non-teleological examples include Hume, Locke and Dennett.

This is just a poll to see who regard themselves as either a teleologist or a non-teleologist.

I cannot believe that all you guys just officially declared yourselves supporters of Intelligent Design/Creationism/Teleology they don't even have a decent Wikipedia page for god's sake.

So there goes all the tons of evidence for evolution... it is creationism that is the winner here on MyBB.

    Intention in design my ass.

You are the only one mentioning that teleology is evidence against evolution.

Can't remember, but as you seem to be very eager to answer the question, don't leave us suspense... which academic field of biology do you hold an PhD?

Nah, anonymity is best for on-line discussions.
What if I do not have any qualification, some will just dismiss any argument even if it is even semi-good. What if I do have a qualification, well in that case bad arguments may be taken seriously. So let's just focus on the arguments shall we, even if you think all of them are bad. Just say why .

maybe give a definition, since the mention of darwin, plato, etc. does seem somewhat suspect.
