Thread: Power conditioning necessary in Pretoria

Default Power conditioning necessary in Pretoria

    Hi there guys

I recently tested my home's power and found that the Voltage from the plug is around 259 V which is too high according to what I know. It is supposed to be 220 V. I baught a good UPS that can condition the power to an acceptable ballance. It is now a healthy 220 V

Turns out that Pretoria as a whole is at the higher end of the Voltage spectrum...

I am not sure about the specifics, but 259 V is aparently straining the capacity of a normal PC power supply in terms of what it can handle. Thus it limits your room for error when surges or spikes in the power comes through.

Does anyone know whether this higher than normal Voltage can hurt a PC and if it can affect performance. Maybe cause a CPU to run hotter than it should etc... [?]

    Cheers

Isn't the tolerance range supposed to be 20% or something? That would put 259V within the "ok" zone, less than the max of 264V.
