I went to the Bellville office the other day.

They had one of those red led electronic date-time displays.
It read Tuesday 16 April 2008, but the date was in fact Tuesday 15 April 2008.

And the other day, there was a printed sign posted all over that they will be closed on Saturday 7th June. But the signs were two weeks old already.

But don't get me started on Traffic Department spelling mistakes.
    "Counter 1 for enqueries"

That must be the counter you enquire at which queue you should query.

They entered your BI-30 (which was just coincidently available nearby) into the system, and thus now you can get the requested document (from the Barrack str office iIassume?).

We tried the Barrack street offices, but were told they only do certain things on a weekend. We ended up going to Malmesbery office, a short wait (less than 1 hour) to get all the passport/marriage/birth certs sorted and handed in. We called them this morning and the marriage certificate is waiting to be collected!

I have applied for unabridged marriadge certificate 2 years ago and still fighting! Can not get the cursed BI-30. As far as I understand the register is a book that takes 100 entries. Once full the register gets send back to homeaffairs and they than issue a new one. Well I have married 8 years ago and obviously the homeaffairs have got this register long time ago. After arguing with them about this situation they told me to obtain affidavids from all the vitneses that siogned the register as well as from me and my wife stating that we have merried, where when and from the vitneses that they have witnessed this, together with photos from the wedding, and that this evidence will serve as BI-30. I have done this now, and got confirmed from cust service team that fax is recieved and BI-30 faxed is entered in databease and that they are processing my application.

Guess what, they just calkled me that they want the BI-30 register copy!!!

I am so desperate I am considering to marry my wife again just to get hands on to this cursed document!

Does somebody have an adwise for me or can anybody help? Please HELP!

It is possible that the marriage officer still has the register book, I have had mine for around eight years and I am only half way through it. Can you track down the marriage officer? Your local home affairs where you were married should still have his details. he most likely still has the original book and will have a copy of the marriage in the book.

Hi I know how you feel. I need to get an unabridged marriage certificate for traveling purposes and also got the IB-30 issue. How can this be resolved? I phoned the pastor who married us , he submitted the IB-30 to Home affairs Randburg. And now I'm stuck.... Help Please!!
Worst of all is that we are leaving for Germany on 13 June 2010 and we need the certificate to obtain our visas.

Luckily my pastor still had his book and i managed to get a copy from him. Apparently they had a query going back to 1980 once and were still able to assist!

    HI everybody!!!
I see this post is very old so maybe nobody will even read this... And I actually registered just because of this! (btw, it took me ages to register since I got the wrong answer to the random question! LOL = I'm not south african)

It looks like the BI-30 form is a common problem and that getting an unabridged marriage certificate is almost like winning the lottery!
I married in south africa last december (YES, one year ago) and after months of calling, writing... they told me only TODAY that they needed this damn BI-30 which I had to goggle to understand what that was!!

I am sooo frustrated.. it's just so unbelievalbe it takes ages.. AND especially.. (that is sooo ridiculous!!!!!!!) my marriage certificate was ready in september, BUT they misspelled my name!! .. And now the question is: why didn't they ask for the BI-30 then... and they need it now so suddenly?? Or did they loose it in the meanwhile?

I'm not regretting that I married in such a beautiful country.. but I hate that I live abroad and I can't send my south african relatives every week to the offices.. and it's just not acceptable that after a whole year I am still not legally married.

    :'(

Hi Bam Bam. I am a marriage officer. Please send me a private message giving me as much info as possible. Where you were married, who it was who married you, etc. I will see what I can do. alternatively send me your e-mail address and I will correspond with you there.

Don't worry about not being legally married - I am also a marriage officer - and you are legally married if they have your details - even if they can't find the BI-31 (now called a DHA-31, btw). Contact the person who officiated at your marriage to hopefully get a copy. Good Luck!

    Angry Fun and games continue

I'm now in the same boat ... After applying for an unabridged marriage certificate, Randburg Home Affairs took over a month to tell me that I now need a form BI-30 from the magistrate who married us in 1991. 20 years later and several people at the Scottburgh Magistrates Court seems ignorant on what a form BI-30 is!!!! I'm running out of time now and need some help. Is Sunbird or some other helpful soul outthere who can help me?

    Hi Malcolm!

Where are you living now? Is it not possible to actually go down to the Magistrate's court and pester them in person?
Failing that, can you get hold of the two witnesses who were are your marriage?
If you can get hold of the witnesses and all of you write and Affidavit to the effect that they were present on the day, and that they witnessed you getting legally married.
You then have the affidavits signed and sworn to before a Commissioner of Oaths and you then hand those to Home Affairs along with as much other documentation as you can provide.
