Neotel launches wireless network

Where and when?

Neotel will be rolling out 100 base stations across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Where exactly and when exactly will this happen? 100 base stations for 3 metros  ...........I suppose its something or maybe a start. But until there is a Neotel service at my home and business (Cape Town Metro) this is just bla bla bla.......

Perfect success...

As if the words "perfect success", especially when dealing with wireless is not enough to sound the alarm about...

Neotel has been conducting tests around Gauteng with seven base stations that have shown "perfect" success, according to Sinha.

^^ That's Rajeev Sinha - the same voidskull that did the so-called "in-depth market research" and decided to offer us the USB-only, non-concurrent & stone-aged Neotel handset.

Now to stand on the roof and find a wimax station. ;) Good times, WD BOKKE!!

Actually overall I'm rather optimistic about this whole thing

In any case, if they have launched the service why haven't we heard more about it? I.e. prices and conditions etc. Or is this only a launch for their corporate clients?

I am not going to be using NeoGhost's WiMaz service, why? - you might ask - it's quite simple - I would like to use the service, but NeoGhost seems intent on offering CDMA2000 to consumers and has decided to reserve WiMax for corporate customers.

It's so Telkodemonopolies-like that NeoGhost decides what its customers will be allowed to use and what they will not be allowed to use, maybe one day NeoGhost will learn that reducing a service's target market to a select few customers, is not an economically sound business practice.

Prescriptive attitude

Like the previous white government state president (the one with the pointing finger) "I will prescribe to you what you want, what you need and what you are going to use how much you must pay, and only if I say so....."

Yep, something like that - NeoGhost makes me , but Telkodemonopolies makes me   .

I think I should just forget about the NeoGhost until it delivers on its promise to provide an ADSL service [in South Africa].

What we desperately need is wired fixed line competition to break Telkodemonopolies' ADSL monopoly, and as I've previously posted, NeoGhost could simply start by reselling ADSL ISP accounts to get customers on-board - with or without IPConnect behind the scenes - NeoGhost does not need to wait for LLU before providing an ADSL service, and it would kick-start the whole LLU process.

WTF were you waiting for.....roll the dam mother to us home based user`s

Consider the following:
We will offer WiMAX as an optional last-mile offering for all of our enterprise products,” says Sinha. “This wireless offering will therefore be seamlessly integrated into our network.”
Now consider this:
My interpretation, is that by not offering WiMax to consumers, NeoGhost must be violating its implied licence conditions as specified in the ECA - since NeoGhost is actively limiting the number of users to its corporate customers only and excluding evryone else that might want to use its WiMax service.

The same probably applies to WBS' WiMax service as well - that AFAIK is also only aimed at corporate customers.

Then there is Telkodemonopolies, which in my case is incapable of offering me ADSL512 and ADSL4096, and yet Telkodemonopolies refuses to allow me to switch to WiMax bcos I already have ADSL384 [and WiMax from Telkodemonopolies is 512 - a step up from what I have ATM at virtually the same price].

@ ic - I'm pretty well upset by their mindnumbing decision to offer an usb-only offering...

Our only hope is that enough people will tell the braniacs to do their research properly. An USB device won't work for myself, as I'll have to either buy a router/switch which can share an USB device, or buy an extra windoze licence just to share it...

Is there any way we can send a petition to the Big Boss telling him what we want?

IMO yes - just stay away from NeoGhost until it realises that pretending to be Telkodemonopolies' cousin is not a good thing, and tell everyone you know how crappy NeoGhost's handset is, however an explicit petition would go nicely with that strategy as well - no idea if anyone with any say at NeoGhost reads what we post here, but maybe they are listening - even Telkodemonopolies reads what we post...except iBurst SA actively ignores what we post and just seems to be getting worse than Telkodemonopolies is.

Sorry to say this, but,,,,, been there, done that!!!

I have called neotel and told their client service and technical departments that their phone sucked, even USB wasn't such a horror but why not call and net at the same time? are we back in the stone ages when you need to make a phone call you need to get off the net and then do it???? kind of reminds me of the very very old days with telkom and mweb dial-up.

I think they are just trying to make consumers pay for a very stupid decision they made bringing these useless devices into the country, there are so many CDMA devices out there that are 10 times better, just wonder if neotel will allow us to get those and use it....

As far as WIMAX is concerned, sorry but F**K NeverTel, and to all the people in bloem and PE that are stuggling to get signal, this will cheer you up, I'm in Kempton Park (right next to the Joburg Airport, large business and industry in the area) and I have no signal even for the basic "crappy phone" service.

And its always 1 month, and another month with NeverTel, thats how they work, u ask them for an ETA they say "u live in a very concentrated area, we expect there to be service soon" and i have no idea what soon means, a year? a decade or a century???

Honestly NeverTel is busy loosing me as a potential client, and being an IT professional that means many more clients for them as I suggest loads of people with their internet connections, I hate telkom but right now telkom is still the only choice, at least I can use my internet and make a call at the same time. so......
