Man was I impressed by Neotel this weekend . Had a pary at my friends house in Rivonia yesterday and he got the Neotel Prime uncapped offering a few weeks ago , so I was eager just to check it out , and see how it performs . First of all his downloads were running at a consitent 150KB/s all day long , so at about 11 pm I wanted to see how good normal browsing etc was. So I asked hom to open a few Youtube vids , he then slowed down his downloads to 60KB/s and opened a Youtube vid of about 5 min (and never opened on his PC before) . I expected the video to stop palying after a few seconds and start buffering , but to my surprise the video just continued and when it was halfway the video was fully buffered already !. I thought yeah ok well lets try another one , and video after video just played all the way through without any pausing .

So when I got home about 01:00 this morning I thought , hmm maybe it was just because it was like late at night over a weekend so let me try this on my adsl line (4 mb) , but no , same videos and I need to pause it at least 30 sec before I can get it to play without pausing .

So yeah , although I wont get Neotel because I mostly use my ADSL line for gaming I was really impressed and for a non gamer Neotel really seem to be a great option .

Well when you're the only person on the network ofcourse it's going to be fast :D

Hehehe , yeah I will have to go and check it out in 3 to 4 months to see if it still so great :D

Didn't something like that happened to Sentech in '04. My friend had the unlimited in January when it was going really fast, at the end of the year he's connection sucked.

Yeah, Telkom is messing with the ADSL lines (shaping etc), 'cause adsl lines have the bandwidth (4mbps) and they have low latency so it should technically work. The only reason it doesn't is their stupid policies.

To be fair I love a good round of telscum bashing but this is not telscums fault. It you use an unshaped ISP package your line should be fast.

But I still hate telscum :D

kiepie, lemme know when you have time to go back to school to learn English. Even Winter School can work, only need 2 weeks then. I'll pay.

No. If you use an unshaped ISP package your connections are not in any way prioritized. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. All physical and other attributes still apply.

If you use the SAIX proxy all Youtube videos download in no time at all.

Also using Speedbit Video Accelerator the video download speed is even faster as it's multi-threaded.

Try it.. one can sap the most out of your ADSL line using multi-threaded downloads. No need for unshaped accounts, latency has no effect on download speed.

Quite right. The unshaped package is still shaped but is intended to offer better latency for gamers etc. It should not be called unshaped in actual fact.. more like, low-ping or something like that.

I'm sure they'll increase capacity then... ? :)

Even Iburst works at full 1Mbit speeds for me from Int sites, even during the day.
