    Hi guys

    So total noob here.

I was a tutor at varsity for most of last year and during the holiday periods I had a 3 year paid internship, both jobs did not pay that great but I still got taxed on them. I am registered for eFiling and have submitted a tax return however when I click on the calculate button the generated PDF shows nothing, no text.

I'm freaking out because my friend who is a 2nd year CA trainee just scared my bones because I told him I have yet to do any sort of tax return or fill in any forms (I guess I need to grow up hey)

So back to my original question. Is there a problem in how I submitted my ITR12 form or something?

also are there any places/people I could go to in CPT who could assist me in this in the event that im in over my head? thanks

Try another browser/computer maybe, or ask your friend to assist. I did many of my friends' tax returns during article years. Trainees (especially at medium and smaller firms) knows the ins and outs of eFiling very well.

We had similar problem at our workplace.
Our IT consultant made us change from Firefox browser to Google Chrome.
So, its what GrootBaas says, try another web browser. (if you are already not using google chrome)

I lost a huge amount of money with the collapse of Dealstream (cfd trading) couple of years ago. I would like to know whether I can claim this as a tax loss. Not sure if it would be income or capital gains loss or how to claim since I have no documentation to prove the loss? Does anyone have any advice to offer or suggest a tax consultant I could contact?

To my mind profit or losses from CFD's are income by nature, because CFD's is a trading position you are buying and this position closes within a few days or months at most. Also, a CFD taken out on shares is a derivative, which means you are not the title owner of the underlying shares/instrument. You are just "betting" on a future position based on that underlying share. Thus dividends earned on it are not true dividens and won't be tax free (or exempt from taxable income). CFD trading is still a bit of a grey area when it comes to tax because it is relatively new. Maybe Celine can find out from a contact at SARS how this is dealt with?

Another interesting scenario is where someone invests R1million into a share portfolio managed by for example Investec. From the investor's perspective, he is investing for long term, hoping for his investments to grow. He is not actively trading. In the mean time, Investec is constantly buying and selling shares within her portfolio on her behalf, as they are the managers. Some profits are made as well as losses in order to maintain lets say a 15% growth. Many of the shares are only held for a few days or months before being sold. Some are short sold. In a given tax year there may be 50 trade transactions in the portfolio. Does this mean it is trading income or capital gains? From the clients perspective, she invested R1million and left it there.

Has anyone tried using e@syFile Employer software (6.2.2) on Windows 8? It installs and starts up, but then just sits with the loading screen "Processing" (see below):

I've tried turning off Windows Firewall, running as Administrator, and re-installing, but still no go. It eventually just times out. Any thoughts?

P.S. Tried on a Windows 7 machine, and had no issues.

got an email for a refund yesterday. i usually delete these scams but i clicked through to see the website. they are using the same theme as the SARS website. same pics and info as well. the only difference is that they have the 4 popular bank logos on the homepage. a dead giveaway is the address!! always check the actually website you on!!

i clicked on the absa logo (i bank with the standard bank). the same theme, pics, info, etc. these guys are getting very skilled at what they do.

    be careful folks.
