Thread: R250 000 Woman's Month concert attracts 400

    Default R250 000 Woman's Month concert attracts 400

instead of the expected 15 000

THE Women’s Month concert organised by the former head of the KZN Agriculture Department, Dr Jabulani Mjwara, and sponsored to the tune of R250 000 by the Msunduzi Municipality turned out to be a damp squib.

The municipality gave Ibhubesi Business Enterprises, which Mjwara co-owns with his former secretary in the department, Nontokozo Mathonsi, the money based on their estimate that the concert would attract over 15 000 music fans. The concert was not widely advertised, and after no tickets were purchased through Computicket, the organisers said on Thursday it would be free.

But fewer than 400 people arrived for the event at the Oval in Alexandra Park on Saturday afternoon.

The concert was scheduled to start at 2 pm, but fans waited until after 7 pm for it to begin. Top artists such as L’vovo and Professor and Tizozo had not performed when the Witness reporter left the stadium after 9 pm.

There goes our taxes toward inriching ANC lackeys again

Girl power is on the wane in Durbs too

Despite the poor turnout at the Wonderful Women Gathering event in Durban, the organisers say they got their message out to the public.

Only 1 000 of the expected 40 000 people attended the event, held at Durban’s Absa stadium yesterday to mark the end of Women’s Month.

I don't think this is an issue of "Girl power" or even a woman's rights issue. I think it's an issue of a lack of faith and a general apathy toward government sponsored nonsense.

Well if your going to have a concert it would be advisable to spend some money on letting people know there was something happening.

I bet if Jacob Zuma rocked up in a skirt at both events, the events would have been at capacity...

I was unlucky enough to get invited to Youth Day Celebrations at the SA Embassy in London... it was a complete joke.

It comprised of the same three pictures playing again and again on a powerpoint presentation and even had a big fat sales pitch for some middle african charity right in the middle of it.

Turnout was about 50 people, and for a country with over 500 000 South Africans in it it was a complete balls up.

'Her Excellency' (as the high commissioner in London likes to be called) Ms Lindiwe Mabuza didn't even show her face, having had to fly off to attend 'an emergency function in Mozambique'.

WTF? PLEASE oh PLEASE could we have a proper opposition in SA? Something you can actually see running the country? All we get is complaints from the current crop but none actually give alternative ideas and tell us how THEY would do it differently.

Was speaking to my gran this past weekend, it's not that the ANC has millions of loyal grassroot supporters...it's just that there isn't anyone else that speaks to them directly like the ANC does. The IFP came close in KZN but have now been snuffled out.

    So sad...and bloody annoying.
I just don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.

Thats quite hilarious. A multi-cultural country could never have a large listener base. Tastes are far to different. Well thats my theory.
