Thread: MWeb are slipping up. MyDoom I Virus

Default MWeb are slipping up. MyDoom I Virus

Just got an email with the MyDoom I Virus.
This is the first time in over 2 years that I have received a virus in my mail.
Funny thing is. I scanned it with Kapersky and it found nothing. I updated the definitions and lo and behold, boom, virus warning. What saw the potential virus before I updated was Windows SP2. It gave a warning that this type of file hidden to look like a txt file is actually an exe file with a payload.

Scary.
I'm actually getting quite concerned myself. I'm getting about 10email notifications a day that my ISP has blocked incoming emails to me that are virus-related, and many others have told me they are having the same issues.
Must b clogging up a lot of bandwidth, all this crap going back and forth.

I emailed MWeb and this was their reply.

Thank you for your query.

Though M-Web offer email virus scanning we can unfortunately not guarentee 100% of infected email will be blocked. We update our server virus definitions as soon as updates become available and assure you we also You will also need to keep in mind that the computer could also have been infected by moving documents via other means such as copying from stiffy disks, cd's and other removal devices which is why always recommend that our subscribers have the own anti-virus protection as well.

Should you require any further information or assistance, feel free to contact us. You can also contact our call centre on 0860 11 22 52. If you only have the one line you can contact us on 08216100 via your cellphone.

Kind regards

And my reply back to him:

Hello Troy,

Sure Boet,

Im afraid I and many others got the email through MWeb's Mail Servers. I
managed to put the word out to a few people I know Judge AL33 and he
got the same Mail also from a Yahoo Account. For your interest the Virus is
called MyDoom I variant worm.
I use Kapersky Anti Virus and it groaned the moment I got the Virus from You
guys. I gather you use Nortons. Perhaps you guys should look at using
another Anti Virus Scanner, like Kapersky. Also for your interest, Windows
XP Service Pack2 Release Candidate 1 also flashed a warning about the mail.
Noddy Badge for Mr Gates. Crumbs for you guys.
It was more of a shock to myself as I have not had a single virus through
MWebs Mail Servers for the several years I have had an account with MWeb.

So hopefully you guys can keep up the good work. Pity about all the people
that might have the worm and dont know about it.

IMO, I reckon you guys should have put out a warning about the leaked worm
this morning already. It would be the right thing to do.

Regards,

Obviously they don'tupdate the defs as soon as possible because otherwise they would have caught the virus before the mailleft their servers.. eish.. he must get a lot of complaints, I've flamed him a few times about MWeb's terrible dialup speed.
