Couldn't believe my eyes when I got this on the Telkom local speed test:
---------------------------
Results:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 0.06 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 68000 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 8333.3 (kiloBytes/second)
---------------------------

For a moment there I thought I was in Nirvana... did it again and got the following, far more realistic (though still not _real_ ADSL);
---------------------------
Results:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 9.083 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 449.2 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 55 (kiloBytes/second)
---------------------------

Any thoughts on what happened the first time around?

The page was cached...you were accessing it on your hard drive... that's why it was fast...

FLIPPIT - and that's precisely the first thought that went through my mind but was immediately discarded, as this simply does not apply... The test was done with a brand new Gentoo Linux install using a brand new install of Firefox - the test was exactly the second site visited after logging on to MyADSL. Also checked my SME-Server unit acting as a gateway, but nuthin' doing... Wierd is an understatement...

Yup - it's about the only reasonably logical inference one can make - Telkrap must have a router-based cache engine somewhere for transparent caching. Dunno how this explains the weird line speed readings, tho'...

Ok, something strange, but am I just stupid the first time I did the telkom speed test on my 56k( yes its sad) i got 432kbits and 50+-k bytes ( same as dsl, on my second one i got my normal 56k speed) And when i downloaded the ftp I got 35kb/s in the transfer speed
