    Default Vodacom 7.2MB Official Firmware?

I'm looking to upgrade my white Vodafone E220 Modem from the 3.6MB firmware to 7.2MB. I read a lot about bricked etc by using incorrect firmware's etc...

Anyhow have experiencing flashing the white Vodafone E220 Modem? I looked on the Vodacom website and couldn't find the 7.2MB firmware. Only

Vodacom don't officially support 7.2 yet, so what are you going to gain by upgrading your firmware?

Perhaps the new firmware contains some fixes, improvements as well as upping the speed capacity? I upgraded just now, no problems. My speed test result seems to have improved (I'm on the 1.8 service). So far I also am noticing the modem not 'going to sleep' like it used to all the time on the old firmware. Light staying on 'cyan' (HSDPA) and not reverting to 'blue' (3g).

    That does sound useful.

It does still switch, (cyan - blue - cyan- etc) but definitely it is more responsive. Stays cyan longer before ramping down to blue. Clicking on a link, the response is now instantaneous, whereas before I always experienced a delay. So, ya - I'm happy!

Edit: Definitely this is better. I would say there's more than just a speed increase with this firmware. The more I surf, the more I'm convinced.

Uplink speed? We've been getting reports of very slow uplink which does not make sense at all as the network is idling in that direction. (You guys all just download).

is this good or bad? (on the 1.8 service)

Edit: BTW, V3g, this is now "IT" for me - no more complaints! Seems this firmware has solved my only problem with VC 3g service - this cyan-blue-cyan sleep thing. As I have dsl if I want to game, I am now more than happy with my 3g.

My personal experience with the 7.2 firmware is that it causes some random disconnects and battling to get connected sometimes. So I just downgraded back to the 3.6 firmware, which I find is alot better.

When 7.2 is officially launched from Vodacom, I'll consider upgrading to 7.2 firmware, maybe they release a more official 7.2 firmware from Vodacom.

I noted getting 1.9 to 2Mbps speeds now after doing the upgrade. on 1.8 Profile. Most definitively an improvement in some way.

I think so too. Though it's been a while since I've done a speed test. I do know my tower recently got hooked up to the national fibre link going through our town with a dedicated connection that is exclusively Vodacom's. Perhaps that partly explains my good speeds too.

But the best is this "sleeping" issue is gone. We had a thread about it a month or two back.
