Thread: ZA Store / Apple Africa / Virtual Africa WTF???

  1. #1

Exclamation ZA Store / Apple Africa / Virtual Africa WTF???

When I try to access zastore.co.za, I get immediately forwarded to www.appleafrica.co.za. (When I tried this on my other computer, ZA Store was displayed normally, but when the cache was cleared I was forwarded to appleafrica.co.za)

I am running FF3 on linux, so I don't suspect any malware or anything.

I have no idea what is going on here. It seems like ZA Store has been taken over by a tour operator!

    Check out www.virtualafrica.co.za

I want to know what is going on here.

It seems you're right about it being ARP poisoning. I completely cleared all my browsers on all the machines on my LAN and now ZA Store is displaying fine.

So although that is resolved... the fact of the matter is that someone is operating this thing locally... and something needs to be done about it. I will alert ZA Store about this, but then it's up to them.

    Small tip

Sit on your router manufacturers head about this. DNS/ARP poisoning attacks has been around for a few years and these companies just turn a blind eye. It's left to software based firewalls to curb the flood and it's not acceptable in my opinion.

Use www.opendns.com as your primary DNS on your router if you can afford it, but remember you won't be able to use the DNS servers on a local only account.

    Hi everyone

I might be able to shed some light on this issue.
I'm the MD of Virtual Africa and through another venture of ours (unrelated to www.virtualafrica.co.za) got involved with Core.
The initial arrangement with CORE was to setup a mirror site for the clients of this new venture.
We booked the domain www.appleafrica.co.za and asked their web company to sort out the mirror site and the DNS stuff.
The problem is, that this planned venture never got off the ground, and the site was 'forgotten'.

I would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused.
    I disabled the domain yesterday.

    regards

Default not really blame shifting .....

    hey tau1z

Because I have dealt with Core in the past, I fully understand where you are coming from, but I can assure you that I am definitely not a 'core spy' - I can't think of a worse 'job' in the world.

Secondly, I just wanted to make sure you understand that this was in fact an apology and not blame shifting.

I am responsible for this confusion and I apologize again.
