Thread: Paramedics vs Police

  1. #1

    Default Paramedics vs Police

What do you think of them both? Who is better? I think Police Paramedics are the best because they give you the best of both worlds! Which ambulance service do you think is the best? Any emergency calls in Cape Town plse. call 073 468 8149 - I am a paramedic

I don't get this - better in terms of what? They're both noble professions, but with different objectives, so comparisons are not really valid? If you can do both, sure - go for it! I just hope you don't work for a private ambulance service and are punting their offerings by posting that contact number...

The Paramedics of the Fire Department need a mention.
They also wont cost you anything as it is paid out of your Rates and Taxes.

And don't forget the NSRI or the Volunteer EMS.

I can kick any police ems's ass. I'm a real paramedic for St. John Ambulance. :)

Hell, I STILL don't get this! I'm not a paramedic and have no idea what kind of comparison can be drawn between the different services, other than perhaps the context within which such paramedics operate, e.g. police paramedics would focus on injuries sustained through criminal activities or accidents, sea rescue paramedics would focus on injuries sustained by boating mishaps, and so on. Surely there's a common thread running through all of this, based on the fact that as a paramedic, one must have a vocation to do the job, and that certain standard treatments apply, irrespective of the context? Why the comparison? Somebody please enlighten me...

[Fire paramedics are great. I think that some don't get enough practice for on the road but I will always call them! My suggestion to fire paramedics would be to work shifts for ambulances and response cars]

[I am a sailor and so think the NSRI are great people and luckily for me I know the head of NSRI! As far as the volunteer EMS, I think these guys are great. I am a volunteer and so are my friends. These guys do it because they like doing it and so know what they are doing. Some guys who do it for money only do it for money and so if I was ever in trouble I would call a volunteer]

[OK I should put this differently. I just want to see what peoples thoughts are? Not a comparison between the police and the paramedics but a comparison between the Paramedics who work for different services. e.g. BETWEEN polica and ambulance and between the NSRI and the ambu and between volunteer and the ambu. etc.]

Ahh OK - so it's merely a toe in the bathtub water to see how cold/hot it is, not a case of 'it's better to shower than to have a bath', if you'll excuse the simplistic analogy. IMHO, the purpose of both is really the real objective - to get clean. Sure, if you can do this with a partner it makes life so much more exciting...

And here's hoping that all those who do pursue a career as paramedics, irrespective of the service in which they are employed, do _not_ act with the degree of unprofessionalism displayed by the two idiots in Johannesburg, who will now probably lose their jobs (and justifiably so too, IMHO)...
