Since I had my first day with them yesterday, I have the first of MANY suggestions;

RECONNECT UPON DISCONNECTION FFS! :mad:

I tried to use Routesentry but that didn't work - any ideas on how to do this?
Because the NeoConnect Manager doesn't have this option!

I don't want to have to wake up in the middle of the night and check on my internet to make sure it's still connected!

:mad:

Another Suggestion for users who do downloads...

GET A DOWNLOAD MANAGER FFS! :mad:

I was downloading 2 rather large files (COD5's 1.2 patch which is 500MB and the FEAR 2 demo)

Both failed in the middle of the night (because my line disconnected!), when I went to bed, the patch was 20% done and the FEAR 2 demo was 5% done (20kb each)

Now I have to restart it damn it!

Hi,

Use the Windows Dialer to connect, and not the Neotel Manager,

You will find that once installed the Windows Connect Dialer is installed,

Change the redial attempts

So I've been told, can you tell me step by step how to do this in XP?

Im at work..

So here is a quick reply to this.

Click Start, then on the list to your right you will see CONNECT TO, Expand this and you will see a Neotel Connection, Right click on the connection and select properties, on the Options Tab there is the Redialing instructions.

Change the number of redial attempts.

When you want to connect to Neotel, click Start, Connect To and click on the neotel Connection, this will dial and connect.

Thanks to orin76

It's actually quite simple. The only pre-requisite is that you have already installed Neoconnect manager (this installs the device drivers). Basically, do the following:

1. Go to the control panel and double-click Network Connections.
2. Under network tasks in teh left hand side panel, select create a new connection.
3. Select Connect to the internet followed by Setup my connection manually then select Connect using a dial-up modem.
4. Enter whatever you want for ISP name and use #777 as the phone number. Your user name is <your neotel number>@neotel.co.za and your password is 1234.
5. Once the connection wizard has finished, you should have the new dial up connection. Double click the connection and click the Properties button. Select the Options tab and increase the number of redial attempts (mine's set to 120), set time between redial attempts to 10 seconds or greater and finally set idle time before hanging up to never. Click OK and you're good to go.

That's all it takes and you now have a dial-up connection that will happilly re-dial when your connection is dropped.

rtzouves;

Being on the forum and asking for details and saying you going to fix problems is one thing, fixing them is another story.

I'm happy that the Neotel rep is here, but I really want to see him get things sorted here.

There are ALOT of unhappy Neotel users on MyBB and alot who have joined and left Neotel.

I'm ready to leave and I'm only been with them 1 day, but the fact that the Neotel rep is here and in the process of helping some of us, gives me hope and with that hope - I plan to stick around for a bit longer to see results.

Previously the Neotel reps strategy was to quote factual info and tell you to contact the call center and then be absent from the forumns for weeks at a time. At least this was my perception. Now i am finally seeing a bit of a change. The rep is at least being more proactive and offering to personally follow up on the issues presented on the forum. I agree that this is just a step, but i believe encouragement and a little support from us will lead to it being a FIRST step and not a LAST step.

My view has always been that the most important thing in technical support is providing a customer with a clear view to a solution. The rep can play a vital role in this by being the middle man for unhappy customers who have had no joy from the normal processes (Call centre). While i agree that a vital component of this is to provide continuous feedback (TAKE NOTE REP), I think that the first step of taking ownership of these problems is a step in the right direction and a clear indication of a change in approach on the part of the Neotel Rep.

Don't get me wrong, i am not kissing the reps preoverbial rear. In fact if you go to some of my previous posts directed at the rep you would see i have been quiet vocal in pointing out his/her shortcommings and most likely not one of his/her favourite people on the forum, but i am capable of identifying when an effort is being made and for this I feel that a pat on the back is well deserved.

/me thinks excessive use of the word step may indicate a lack of vocabluary on his part :p
