    Norton AntiVirus 2005

    Yeah I know it's bloaty but it has consistently rated as one of the better AV programs and I don't have time to keep testing all the others. Haven't had any virus/worm problems while running it.

    When configuring a Windows box, I use AntiVir or Panda. On Linux, have never found the need for it, except for Amavis as a mail scanner...

    I use Avast on Windows and Virex on Mac (but why am I telling you this - everyone here is anti-Mac)

    Only problem with Avast is it is a bit clumsy when dealing with actuall Vireses - but it still works fine.

    All that I ask is that you try out a Mac - kilps

    Cnet.com voted Trend Micro Internet Security pack the best.

    I personally use Trend Micro and Norton. Norton for my XP home machine and Trend Micro on my XP Pro box.

    Cheers

    * Several versions of Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security (or whatever it was called)
    //Not brilliant, but better than Trend Micro
    //No longer touch Symantec/Norton AV+FW

    * McAffeeeeee....
    //last time I used that was in Dundee (NE of Edinburgh) 1999..2002
    //had continual problems with it, hated it, still refuse to touch it

    * Trend Micro PC-cillin 2003 Internet Security (Antivirus & Firewall)
    //this was <b>totally useless</b>, ditched it a few months back when sponsored license expired
    //I only had it on a PC bcos I got it 'free'
    //(now you know what %previsp% is, as well as IB that I use)

    * F-Secure Internet Security 2004
    //i am a long-time user of F-Secure going back to 1998
    //probably the best at real-time detection
    //probably the best at automatically & incrementally downloading updates
    // everytime you connect (dial-up) without hogging bandwidth (all configurable)
    //sometimes hangs when trying to scan files locked by OS
    //Expensive, both initial license as well as renewal license
    //Firewall tweaking is not for the novice (<i>see EZ Armor</i>)
    //Does not protect server products, for that you have to spend
    // way more cash on other F-Secure products
    //2005 version integrates with irritating 'new' WinXP(P)SP2 Security Centre AV+FW thing

    * Computer Associates eTrust EZ Armor (eTrust EZ Antivirus & eTrust EZ Firewall)
    //<i>shameless pl-g</i>: www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/
    //Seriously this is the best av+fw I have used
    // in terms of features, usability, quick to get it going,
    // you don't have to be a firewall expert it is way easier
    // than F-Secure's Distributed Firewall
    //It claims to work with server products - exchange server
    // personally I haven't tried that yet, but I will soon
    //On the downside, F-Secure is rated as being slightly better at real-time scanning
    // but so far it has not missed anything
    //If you are logged on with a user account that
    // is only a member of the Users group, AV-Autodownload fails.
    // F-Secure is way better with auto-updating definitions etc.
    //Reasonably priced, especially renewal license.

    I used NAV for a long time (which slowed down my system considerably), then one day I tested Kaspersky Antivirus and immediately switched over to it when Kaspersky detected 2 viri that NAV never picked up.
