Note that you need to have the same MTU value on all PCs using ICS.

This is the only config that gets ICS working for me with iBurst and 2 NICs:

Open Network and Dial-up Connections.

Internet NIC:
* Connected to iBurst UTD (via ethernet)
* In Internet NIC properties, General tab:
** Enable NDIS(PPPoE) User mode I/O Protocol for iBurst Terminal
** Enable Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
** Uncheck everything else (including Client for Microsoft Networks)

iBurst_Terminal Connection:
* In properties, Sharing tab:
** Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection
** For local network must be set to Intranet NIC
* On the Networking tab:
** Only enable Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), uncheck everything else

Intranet NIC:
* Connected to an ethernet switch, which is connected to other PC's
* In Intranet NIC properties, General tab:
** Enable Client for Microsoft Networks
** Enable Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
** You can enable other protocols/services here needed on your Intranet

I have IBurst with one NIC and am using the USB cable, should I still use the same settings as you said IC?

Azgard, you have a direct USB connection between 2 Windoze PCs that are <= 5m apart from each other, and in the PC connected to your iBurst UTD there is 1 NIC, the other PC that is connected to your iBurst PC does not have a NIC, right?

Now, another question about the USB ports on both ends- are they USB2, or USB1?

What is the maximum speed of the NIC that you have in your iBurst PC- 10Mbps or 100Mpbps?

ic, I may be wrong, but I think Azgard has the connection setup the way I have - and I also can't get ICS working (XP Pro)...

2 PCs < 5m apart, with crossover cable connecting PCs (100Mbps). USB connection to UTD...

Ok, Raithlin, I know that there are several differences between XP & 2KP: I installed the iBurst s/w on a friend's XP Professional PC over the weekend in Randpark Ridge, I had to create a new broadband connection (PPPoE even though my UTD was attached via USB) to supply the iBurst connection username & password. On Win2KP, the iBurst installation installs an iBurst_Terminal Connect UTL app that does the username & password for you.

So as not to confuse you with Win2KP stuff, this is what you need to do under XP:

1. Set MTU to 1392 on both PCs, i.e. for your 2 NICs, and on your iBurst PC also set MTU to 1392 for the broadband connection that you must have setup yourself.
2. On your intranet-only PC (other end of RJ45 crossover cable), make sure that the NIC there is not configured with a static ip, it must be set to obtain an IP address via DHCP.
3. On the properties dialog for your iBurst broadband connection, find ICS and enable it, if XP works the same as 2KP this should automatically configure the NIC in your iBurst PC with IP address 192.168.0.1, which is what it should be.
4. Reboot both PCs to make sure the settings have taken hold.
5. Come back & let me know if ICS is still not working.

Added: the 5m cable length applies to a USB cable. With CAT5 Ethernet cable you can comfortably have a 20m..25m long cable.

Thanks guys, let me clarify a bit.

I have two PCs connected together via a CAT5e cable, both have built in NICs and my PCs NIC has an auto crossover thing, PCs are probably about 10 to 15 meters apart. My UTD is connected to my PC via a USB cable.

My PC is set to IP 192.168.0.1 and other PC get's via DHCP. I have shared the IBurst broadband connection from my PC. On my other PC I've tried to ping sites but they just time out.

I looked in the registery where you said ic but found no DWORD MTU value so not sure how to change it yet...

Ok, when there is no DWORD value in the registry called MTU (depending on the windoze version) then the default used is 1500, and that will cause lots of problems.

If you don't want to use DrTCP, and you are ok with RegEdit, then create a DWORD value called MTU, and give it the decimal value 1392.

Ok that is much better than what I thought you had (USB attaching the PCs), so the instructions I gave Raithlin will be the same for you as well.

Ok, just make sure that your iBurst PC's builtin-NIC has not been manually (by your hands) set to 192.168.0.1, bcos M$' ICS does all that automatically & you don't want to try overriding what it does behind the scenes.

As for the Request timed out- first sort out MTU then take it 1-step at a time from there.

I don't mind reg editing so I'll give it a try and create the MTU value on both PCs.

I think I did set it to use 192.168.0.1, but will change it and let it do it automatically. Will change values in a while and restart both systems.

Depends, the reason I use Ethernet instead of USB is I have 2 NICs in my iBurst PC, and I get 2-NICs to work better with my firewall software (Intranet & Internet zoned NICs), doesn't work as nicely when iBurst is attached via USB.

The one problem with iBurst attached via ethernet- the system tray app only works with USB. (me edits 2)

Ok, what firewall config have you got on both PCs?

Is there maybe something wrong with the NICs, the crossover cable?

Can each of the XP PCs see each other in Network Neighbourhood?

Both PCs are running zone alarm but I have set up a network connection in each and put it in the Trusted zone so that should be fine. Widows SP2 firewall is also enabled on the LAN connections and on the IBurst one, well it was, I think I've disabled it now.

It's possible that the NICs are damaged, or the cable, but not very likely since I can access each PC from the other.

Ok, if you can see each PC from the other, make sure that it is via the TCP/IP protocol and not just NetPooey. I think you can assume the NICs are ok, cable ok, but check the NIC settings to make sure they are both set to Auto or the same speed & duplex or whatever.

The next step is to disable the XPSP2Firewall, if you have ZoneAlarm just stick with that & disable the dumbass warnings that SecurityCenter spits out about not having an M$ recognised firewall.

Another thing I should've mentioned, on your intranet PC, do not set the default gateway - leave it empty - if you have manually entered 192.168.0.1 then remove it.

Thanks I'll make sure the SP2 firewall is disabled and check all the settings.

I had set the default gateway manually to that, but I think last night I changed it. Anyway will check and fix it today some time
