The phone is a bit buggy. I get disconnected when it switches from 3G to GPRS and if I am on Bluetooth the connection drops if the download speed approaches 200 kbits/sec.
For me the biggest advantage is being able to select towers and whether I use 3G or GSM with the ftd menu.

I know that with the N80 you can select UMTS (3G), GSM (2.5G) or a hybrid of both so that it switches between the two. If I recall with previous models one couldn't force 3G only, you could either use it in GSM mode or hybrid mode only.

With the N80 you can force 3G only and avoid it switching between 3G and GPRS. Trust me even with the N80, the connection drops while switching back and forth between 3G and GPRS. The best way is to force it to use only one of the two.

Ajax: How on earth do you select which tower to use? I am only aware of selecting which mode to use. It seems however that there might be a Virgin/Cell-C tower a little further with a better signal but my phone seems to keep selecting the nearer one with the weaker signal.

Thanks, HighflyerGP, this is excellent news. I don't understand why Nokia didn't put this feature in the menu system on the first 3G capable Nokias. I know of several people that got "tricked" into buying a N70 "to use for 3G internet access" just to find that the phone selects GSM towers where they stay and the menu don't allow a UMTS mode.

This connection dropping is very frustrating. At least on Vodacom the 3G coverage is adequate so that I don't need GSM mode at all.

I use the ftd menu, also called netmonitor. Get it from:
http://rapidshare.de/files/1529006/N..._6680.zip.html

I use it when I am in an area where there's no 3G and where the EDGE tower is not the strongest signal. Then with this menu you can select to use a single tower only
See the following post of how to use it:

[If someone can enlighten me as to how to make a link part of the word and not give the whole URL, please, thanks!]

Thanks, I use netmonitor but didn't know about that.

You wrote the url as this:
http://url This highlights the words "http://url" and makes the link point to "http://url". If you write it like this:
link text Then the words "link text" will be highlighted and the link will point to "http://url".

I suppose this is what you want?

Or you could go to advanced post instead of quick reply, highlight the words you wish to link to a url, click the Insert Link button, and then enter the url into the pop-up box that appears

Just loaded the version 5 firmware using the software updater. It's version 5.04.07. The firmware download is about 27 MB.
This is on my vanilla 6680.

My Vlive 6680 with version 4 did not report any new available updates
