Angry PE prepaid electricity tariff increase ?

In January 09 I bought prepaid vouchers at the Spar and the cost per unit worked out to be 56c per unit. Today was the first time since then that I bought and the tariff is now 70c per unit

Damn, I should have bought more in Jan.

I've seen recent news about the Eksdom tariff, but haven't seen any notice from our municipality that they were increasing the tariff - anyone else get notice of this?

This is a 32% increase, but what I'm worried about is the Eksdom tariif has only just been announced, and we are likely to see another such increase in the next few days.

Edit: Another thing, on the slip they have "Free electricity Limit: 300.0" - what does this mean?

Unfortunately it has been well publicized; the previous increase as well as the current one.

The "300.0" - It has to do with the ATTP programme - see link:

Damn, so within a matter of seven or eight months we'll see an increase of close to 70% , fsk the daylight bandits.

Thanks for that link - I started reading it with the hopes that I could swing one on them and claim a little of my money back, but I'm just not poor enough to qualify, yet.

I bet all the taxi owners who have solely cash (no tax) income take advantage of the handouts, at our expense.

So you are not one of the 78 000 families enjoying free 50kWh per month or 87 000 households receiving free basic water per month???

Anyone have confirmation when PE's next electricity tariff is due and the expected increase?

    I'm thinking of buying a sheet-load at today's rate - hoarding electricity

    Default Hi ther,

I have some news for you!!!
I bought a load of electricity the beginning of the year just before the price increase. When I had to buy again in three months time I had to pay a penalty fee before I could buy units again...

Eskom is in big financial problems due to bad planning and we, the consumer, are being punished for this...!

That ATTP program specifies that the household must not earn more than 2 state pensions.
How much is 2 state pensions?

The state pension seems to be at R1010 per month.

Well, the .gov sites are unresponsive, so, this is all the information I could find.

So, if the household earns less than R2020 per month then you don't have to pay rates and taxes and sewerage and get free water and limited free electricity in the Mandela Bay municipal area, or, something like that.

Basically yes. It is obviously a limited supply.

What was the penalty for? It can/should only be for an unpaid services or rates account.

Eksdom supplies in bulk to NMBM so in this case you need to point fingers at NMBM.

I'm also interested to hear about this.

I buy an amount every six to eight months and haven't seen this penalty yet.

NMBM are still trying to sort out my rates bill on one of my rental properties - eighteen months ago the electricity meter was removed and a pre-paid installed and they still bill each month for electricity consumption.
Each time I query it I get "The enquiry below has been forwarded to the relevant department."

And now there's talk of renaming Port Elizabeth airport after some dead terrorist

okay never mind the bloody nersa allowing the bastards to increase their prices how about not being able to buy power at all i remember about for weeks back. Its not that Eskom doesnt have the capacity i mean half of the output goes out of the freakin country.Bottom Line We should be getting all of the MW they produce. Lets not even talk about Performance bonuses when we were in darkness
