E1000 as 3G modem on PC

Hi,

I would like to access the Internet via the 3G network using my Motorola E1000 as a modem on my PC. At the moment I can only connect via GPRS although I have 3G reception. What are the correct configurations\activation procedures for the Vodacom network. Note that I can access the 3G network on my phone itself.

This would be a similar setup as using the 3G data card but instead I use my E1000 right?

you might need to upgrade the firmware on your phone, as it seem to have sorted the problem for 949BFN

If I have the upgraded firmware, what setting do I net on my phone and PC. Or will the GPRS connection jump the 3G?

weird. i had no problems getting onto 3g via the e1000. must be a setting you have fiddled with :-) have you set your phone to default to the 3g network?

feck. cant remember. its somewhere in the settings - you set the network selection from automatic to manual, it will then scan available networks, and you choose Vodacom 3G. It will always use this network BUT wont roam to GSM when 3G is not available. Good way to test if your modem is working though...

I had no problems connecting my E1000 via Bluetooth to my PC. However, 3G reception may not always be available. You will see a red 'G' on the screen when you have reception, otherwise you fall back to GPRS. This won't stop you from being able to access the so-called '3G' services on VodafoneLive, so having access to that doesn't prove you have 3G coverage. Look out for the red 'G'.

The switch should be seamless - the only notable difference will be your browsing speeds.

The 'G' is red on my phone but on the PC the internet access is pretty slow. Also the link speed on the connection status icon stays at something like 115baud, I think! Will try the suggestion by "ScrnScrm".

On the E1000, if you have GPRS you'll see the red 'G'. If it's a '3G' icon you're on 3G.

The 3 in the 3G icon is quite small so look out for it.
