Hi everyone,

I need some help regarding setting up my wireless AP for use with RouteSentry.

I have the following setup:
- DLink DSL2500U
- Netgear WG102 FW 4.0.6

I installed RASPPPoE and RouteSentry, connected the laptop to the router via cable and RouteSentry and the routing of local and international bandwidth seems to work 100%

But now I need to include the WG102 in the setup as I need to use wireless (cannot lay any cables), but I do not know what setting I need to correct on the wireless AP in order to "bridge" it, I guess, so that the router and the wireless AP give me control on my pc of the PPPoE connection. The Netgear settings available (regarding bridging on the Netgear) to me can be seen here:

I would really appreciate help as I need to have the setup wireless. RouteSentry works like a bomb.

That link that you gave is only applicable for multiple WIRELESS access points, where as you only have 1.

Have you tried to simply configure the Netgear to be a wireless AP (access point), disable DHCP for the LAN (& wireless) and then connect its WAN port to the D-Link router.

I'm not sure, but you might even be able to dial PPPoE connections from your Netgear router via your D-Link. If you/someone else could manage to do that, then you won't have to use the Netgear in a bridge setup OR RouteSentry any more. If you can connect to the Netgear router using Telnet or SSH and it has the "pppd" application, then the odds are that it could dial PPPoE connections :)

Hi Pada,

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure, though, what you mean when you say disable dhcp for the lan. DHCP is switched on on my router when in PPPoE mode, and enabled on my LAN connection on my pc, but you cannot switch off the DHCP on my pc. SO I am not sure what you mean when you say that. Also, the DLink Router and Wireless AP is connected via rj45, except for when I need to be in the control panel / setup page of the wireless AP.

Further, I do not think that the wireless AP can handle dialing PPPoE connections as it is not a modem / router. I have looked at the settings available on the wireless AP and I cannot see such a function.

Would I be able to control 2 connections and control these like you can with routesentry should the wireless AP be able to dial PPPoE connections?

Your description makes no real sense to me :P

Give a rundown of - all the hardware involved,how are they connected and what roles they fulfill

Hi Psywulf

~~~~~~Intel Pro wireless client built into my laptop
I want to use RouteSentry. And connecting the laptop straight to the router and setting the router to bridge mode, together with installing RASPPPoE, it works perfectly.
But I cannot get the laptop to connect to the Netgear wireless AP. I dont know what the changes to the AP should be in order to facilitate this. Since the router does not assign an IP any longer (I am correct in saying this? thus router is not DHCP server any more when in bridge mode) does the AP need to be a DHCP?
I am not sure what the settings should be. Have tried a repeater mode but my laptop did not pick up a wireless network when I set the AP to repeater mode. Entered the Intel wireless client MAC address into the settings on the AP.
Please help :o
AP in "access point" aka Wireless Bridge mode cabled to the DLink will provide the connectivity you require
