But why buy the Elonex eBook 511EB over the Kindle? Well for starters it is available off the shelf, so there is no waiting period for delivery. It also comes with 100 pre-loaded classics, which should save you some bandwidth.
    I LOL'ed on this statement.

The Kindle includes FREE F****** BANDWIDTH !!!! Hence the premium on the device - well compare to other products in SA its very well priced.

The reason why I will be buying a Kindle.

The complaints of Elonex was about the OneT+ they were Linux based websurfers and were all beacause of the operating sytem. Linux is a "new" OS for most users. The Ebook is a great little gadget it comes with over 100 free books and works wonders. For the price you get alot of bang for your buck.

Elonex learned from the mistakes of the OneT+, the new products we are launching in SA will rival MSI & BenQ (Netbook). Keep a eye out and you will see the new range of Netbooks are very superior in build and up to date technology can be found for a great price.

The Ebooks is going into JHB CNA stores in this week.
Originally reading your post it seems that LINUX was to blame for the failure of the previous brands products.

Looking at your sig, it seems the new product is still LINUX based.

So I can conclude that you will still be getting a lot of complaints according to your logic.

Having experienced first hand how the company expected tech`s to lie to customers to buy time for a so called solution and then never actually providing a solution to techs or clients...
To the point of tech`s simply walking out of the job cause they were just expected to BS clients and got taken for a ride on internal promises made to improve the situation.
The way Elonex SA treats their staff was also not appropriate.
Graham Davies (old twitchy) and Elonex will not get any support from me or anyone that i know and can advise.
You sound like a disgruntled ex employee, true things were done wrong in the past, but things has improved.

Chances are I know you very well twitchy has not changed much but I have changed the way things are done.

No the NEW products are Windows XP based and are all Windows 7 ready. Linux was the issue most people still cannot understand Linux on the Acer Aspire One. I barely got to grips with this lop sided OS.

Hi, I see your sig was for something else.

Interesting that you say its XP based, do you not mean WindowsCE???

Also, according to the manufacturer of this device, Netronix, it gets shipped by default with Linux Kernal 2.6 OS (not mentioned so I take its tweaked for the product).

Not on an OS crusade so I'm not here to knock the choice of OS. Just seems odd that these dedicated devices are being sold with their original OSes. Just an observation.

So what classics come with this device?
    Have I read them all?
    How much for a book?
Can I get Playboy as well?

I like to read a book during summer while sitting at the pool. So far, my books' batteries have never died.

If it was WindowsCE I would not have said XP, its XP SP2, (OneT+) yes it was tweaked for the product (in retro spec not a great move )

Although I'm intrigued by the Elonex product it doesn't QUITE match up to the Kindle though..

The Kindle has a bigger screen.

Has nothing to do with the manufacturer, or your suppposed bad experience supporting them.

If the Elonex had the same specs as the Kindle, and access to a similarly stocked book store it would be a contender.

Amazon -> MyUS -> South Africa. It was between 2k and 2.5k with tax and shipping. I can't actually remember.

Bought it the day it came out.

Easy to use, and I get books from the Sony store. You need a US address, and might need a US credit card. I can't verify because I have both lol.

    Default Stay away from elonex

Omg, is elonex still around. Vey suprised they have lasted so long. Worst product on the market by far.
I did support on this piece of crap so i know what i am talking about. Do not wast ur money on pile of rubbish and rather waste ur money on something good.
This unit will last just a couple of days before it starts giving problams.
Especially do not bye this for your kids for xmas cause i promise you they will not be very impressed with you when it breaks.
And what can i say about "blinky"..He is another Con in the making.
Anyways let me get some work done. Got better things to do that to curse about elonex products. Just thought i would do the right thing and warn the ppl out ther to STAY AWAY from this crap.

    Laters peeps
