It does not have a CD or DVD ROM, that is why you saw the enclosure, it has four USB ports so the media would be added that way.

Let me give you a quick, easy to understand crash course thin clients: You own a call centre with 20 cubicles, everybody only needs to work off and access one database on a server. Each person don't need a computer, they just need a window to the server and a input device (keyboard, mouse). You save money as thin clients are cheaper than a normal PC. Most thin clients are very limited so your staff won't be able to connect to the net or use timewasting services like Facebook even with a proxy.

Another example: You own a shop with 5 tills, each cashier must use the same stock table otherwise your stock totals will be screwed up. Do you buy each one a computer or just each one a cheap thin client?

    nice very nice. impressive!

i was thinking of one getting one of those to use here at home for work stuff as my pc crashes most of the time so don't really need the dvd or cd stuff.
Your Android may be "Baked By Darky" but my PC was "Fixed By Whitey".

Smartcape (free library internet initiative) runs on HP thin clients. But I have added a normal hard drive and a normal operating system so its like a full blown PC. You can run your DVD's off a external enclosure. That that defies the point of compactness.

It has everything except a optical drive (because it is so compact even a laptop drive will look out of place). And it originally comes with a 256MB hard drive with Windows XP Embedded installed (some ATM's run XPe) .

nice, what is a 256mb hard drive, i take it that that is not the memory and if so if you add an external hard drive to it via usb that will make it bigger or what?

I have taken the 256MB IDE hard drive out, there is a photo of it on ratemyisp.co.za, a flash IDE hard drive looks a RAM chip with a IDE adapter attached. It's running a normal 20GB hard drive at the moment. Thats why the casing can't close. Its a temporary solution.

@ Rate My ISP - do you have more of these thin clients? If so, do you sell them? What price? Would love to try building something like this! My chick has been worrying me for a while to get 1 of those digital photo frames, maybe I can score some brownie points by actually building 1!!

I kinda get the feeling there was some subliminal advertising going on in those pics. Just can't put my finger on it

Lol, I'd also like one. RMIsp, are you thinking about selling them?
