Yes but the Pocahontas story left out the cool Avatar part so it needed to be re-done anyway.

We have so many remakes : Pink Panther , Robin Hood, Peter Pan , Oceans 11 etc whats the problem with a good movie? So the story line is old/similar/same, who cares? Did YOU enjoy it? Thats the most important thing.

    Want origional, go watch 9.

The storyline was lame at times. It just seemed like they didn't know what they wanted to do with the animation. Perfect example is where they're playing around on the record player just being random...that whole scene was just "wtf".

The biggest fail was those ships not having bullet proof glass.

I mean FFS how can a battleship not have thick strong glass.

Ja, the similarities with Pocahontas and a hundred other movies were already being posted on IMDB from day one. Not really a very original story... but these are my questions:

    1) Out of the entire planet, they find that the biggest deposit of unobtanium is right under the main tree? Seriously? You couldn't finish mining the rest of the planet first? Or find another huge deposit?

    2) Out of all the humans on Pandora only 5 have a problem with the planned genocide? Really? Is that how far the human race has gotten in the year 2154 or whatever? Well, jeez what is the point of even trying now?

    3) So Jake Sully falls in love with the Na'vi culture which the other doc already loves. But they only decide to tell them that they are gonna get planet raped 5 minutes before the bad guys arrive? Seriously?

    4) In the entire history of the Navi people only 5 have ever ridden one of the giant dragon thingies. and even then it was cos the dragon thingies chose them. But Jake is able to fly above one and hijack within the space of 5 mins. And the tribe then goes from intense hatred to batty-eyed endearment in 5 seconds flat?

There was a bunch of other stuff... maybe I will post later.

1: I think that there was a reason why the stuff was under the tree... I think they just never got in to explaining it. Also its going to take forever to mine the stuff if its spread out, its always best to mine where it is most dense. More than likely where ever they were going to find the stuff there was going to be natives living above it.... might as well go for the motherload.

2: Its the 5 people in charge... the rest just obey orders, its always like that.

3: Yes, that part sucked. They could have taken the story in a different direction at that point and given the story some depth.

4: Yes but don't forget he was "chosen" by their Navi god. Its entirely possible that he was some kind of messiah anyway. Its simple... you on a strange planet, they think you are special because of some "sign". You need to save the day and all the other special dudes rode the dragon.... you just have to ride the dragon, no other option.

I've never seen Pocahontas so I didn't know about its plot.

Will watch 9 over the weekend.

And YES. I did enjoy Avatar.
